I just leave it checked and set to -1. Similar to your soloution.

My key's been configured to "ESC" See attached screen shot for location of where to configure this.
Also, any currently running macro will be stopped when another macro is told to run via hotkeys.

That would be nice. It would help with my mining macro when it says "No item type (####) found!!!"
