I'm sorry for your plight, but in all fairness I doubt this would have even been an issue if you hadn't gone a step further and advertised on Defiance. The following is from the link you posted on this thread.

The individual was spamming trying to hire "a scripter" and when a friend of mine stepped up and pretended he was a scripter, the invidual asked him infos about decrypting the account.xml file.
This has sadly happened other times in the past where players have gone to fake shards and used sensitive password infos, then gotten their accounts looted/emails compromised.
This is a heads up to be careful and only use passwords/acct names you don't mind being compromised.

Something tells me, and maybe I'm wrong... that we're only hearing one side of the story and maybe some half-truths.
...lol Ryan can't help you here because Ryan can't control what Defiance does or does not do. Advertising your server on any server is bad for business and people wont deal with you
. If you're desperate for players you might want to build a website, if you haven't already, and make it available to search engines.
Additionally go onto the EA commercial servers and make some friends; maybe they'll be interested - but remember never to talk about your server in game (could get your account banned); the best way is to hint about it during casual conversations on similar topics in Teamspeak, Skype, or even Ventrilo. People using the commercial servers are always looking for change; maybe your server has what they want. lol
ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
If anything you got some free advertising from Defiance. The bigger deal they make about your server, the more curious some people might get to at least have a looksee. Remember - even negative press can be good press.
