Thanks for the updates Ryan. Anxiously awaiting 2.0 here! I stop in every day to see if it's been released.
Do you think we're looking at earlier in April or later in April?I think that the framework for the ML support is more important than having every piece of it in place for 2.0. If the core provides the base support for the skills, maps, etc., then most of the rest of it could be scripted by users if need be until the full ML stuff can be completed. |

I think your thoughts about Wyatt are spot on. He started off with the typical "Source should be freely exchanged, we should all share, I will be the rebel who liberates us all from the Evil Dev Team (tm) and brings RunUO source to the masses!" - and then he ended up as "You're all stealing my code, I'm not going to release any more, this is too much!" I think its exactly as you said, he discovered that maintaining a major server project isn't all just glory, there are a lot of pitfalls and aggrivations too. On a side note, I've really seen a positive change in the forums lately, not so much flaming and bickering going on and just overall a very helpful, positive atmosphere. I don't know if that's intentional or not but its a good thing. The forums are really becoming a much more pleasant place to visit lately and its great to see because this is a great project and overall, this is also a great community of people. Kudos to all you guys for all your work and for sharing with us the RunUO project! |

But Ryan and his team want to make sure everything is fixed right when RunUo 2.0 comes out and his work on it a lot plus his job. I’m just saying not everyone needs to ask when RunUo 2.0 will come out Ryan does fine job of giving us information and updates on it.

No Worries!
The longer the RunUO Development team takes the community can rest assured they are getting a quality product. With my earlier post I was simply curious to know a timeframe, but I now see that we are close. I don't mean to pester anyone with my comments, consider me the "new guy". I sincerely appreciate all of the effort that went into coding the source as well as scripting AOS/SE into RunUO 1.0. I never want that to be questioned, now or in the future. You have given my imagination a virtual world to explore and I thank each of you for it (RunUO Dev Team + Forum Contributors). I say "No Worries" because I am confident that RunUO 2.0, albeit not 100% feature complete, will be the most stable base application to run anyone's server. Not to sound that I am brown-nosing, but you all do great work and I commend you for it. -Regards Mash http://nickomash.com |

Hah the new RunUO sounds like fun
Kind of wondering though - will things like the spellbooks and guild system from SE be up and running in 2.0, or is that still a surprise? Either way, can't wait *sometime in april, sometime in april* lol.

too because I am flying down to Florida from Washington to see my gf! Woot! ;P If not hey just means RunUO is really debugging and making sure EVERY LITTLE + and - are just right... We don't want rockets going to the wrong direction do we now???THis is a true story a NASA Designer Programmer happend to put a - instead of a positive and the rocket shot off upwards then ended up blowing up in the middle of the ground about a few miles away... When he found out that the - was suppose to be a + he was like "*F*" and well he lost his job cuz the rocket was a 10mil dollar project lol

LOL i guess a little food for thought the anyone that thinks that runuo dev team hasnt been busy. most professional dev teams for online games are around 90-120 persons for just code development. last team i was involved in was small at 45 persons. runuo core dev team is 6-8(sorry dont have exact count) and mind you like most of the users they do this as a hobby. they have lives like all the shard owners and support personal that make up this community. what they have done thus far is actually very impressive concidering the budget and time constraints.
personaly while ide really like to see the new code for my own personal learning and enjoyment i would more love to see it as complete as possible as a core program. for this i can wait as long as it takes. besides while waiting i can brush up on my own projects both in uo and out. Athought to those that seem to be in limbo until release if you code waiting for the new core. pick up any of the major systems that are in alpha , and give these folks a hand in testing and development. if thats not your cup o tea then grab one of the many good scripts forgotten in the archives and work it into something better or think long and hard what the community might want or need and script it. also im sure there are alot of new members that could prolly use your help in thier own learning curves. not saying everyone teach these peeps how to code, that comes on thier own time and level, but heh project this size not any one of us knows it all. and im sure that everyone could use a wall to bang thier head against every now and again. lol my post is way to long and i got some C# to scratch for my own shard lol |
