Definately good to hear! Big thanks to Ryan and all of the Devs for their hard work and giving us all a great system to enjoy UO on w/o the hassle of dealing w/OSI... I am very excited to see what 2.0 brings... Keep up the good work!

I had ccome to the conclusion that RunUO wasn't "really" an open source project a while back, on the grounds that it didn't really have community participation, ala any other serious open source effort. I then went thru this thought process where I considered forking the core, only to do what you just proposed. I even wrote a long vision statement. However, being old enough and wise enough to know I wouldn't really be able to follow thru on such a proposal, I never published the statement or did anything/

I can't tell you how pleased I am that RunUO has taken this next step to maturity. Very good move. Now we just have to see if the community can grow a few "trusted committers" or what not (understandably a problem around the emu community I think).

I recommend you look over the Linux approach of odd and even number releases, and how they manage that (even for stabilization and bug fixes, odd for developmental, let the downloader beware). Using such a process, you should be able to get a whole new level of validation to the releases, a lot more community involvement in the content, and so forth.

I am chewing at the bit every day. We have spent over a month on a new map and storyline and now I am just waiting for 2.0 to get back to the scripting. I do not want to do too much then have to fix a bunch of errors if my work isn't compatible for whatever reason...

i think this is awsome now runuo can start moving along at a better pace and we can get things coded faster and better as a whole community i think this is also good because it will reduce forks most likely

Uhm, where the heck did you hear this?

http://www.runuo.com/products.php#1

Phrase "april" not found on page. At all.

Besides, I'd count this as an April release. It's the source after all - compile it, and voila! RUO2.0.

PS: There was a guy who falsely announced it was being released in april. He was banned if memory serves me correctly.

Edit: Yup, he was. RunUO 2.0 coming out tomorrow

i got it in a email :

RunUO is ready to take its next step into the Ultima Online emulation world with
RunUO 2.0 and a brand new shard UO Gamers: Divinity and we would like you to
take part in both events! RunUO 2.0 is slated for release in April and is
undergoing some internal quality assurance right now. We anticipate RunUO 2.0
being one of the largest RunUO releases to date with a major overhaul of the
underlying systems that drive RunUO.

Ah, that one. My bad, but I'd still call this an april release (and not to start a flame war, but they never did specify _which_ upcoming april >_<)

I realized a bit late that my post came out more...snippy (think that's the word I'm looking for) than I had originally intended. Sorry bout that (I'm not normally that much of an ass).

Just wish I could figure out why the heck my pc doesn't want to install the program(s) needed to download the source (probably cause I'm on windows >_<)

Reply to above: same, I just figured April 2007 so I wouldn't get my hopes up

Edit 2: Doh! There isn't a link for the repository yet (so I should stop trying to install the one for downloading source code from the school network I'm on, cause we might not be using that) >_<

2.0 isn't even released yet. I'm sure a changelog will show up at the same time that 2.0 is released.
