I've tried a good few searches on this topic but can't find anything along the lines of what i'm after here so thought i'd try to ask if anyone can help with some info.
I'm busy writing a console application, which when it works (famous last words) will connect to 'A' server, send the required packets to recieve the required information in order to generate a file with the requested infomation and put it into a text file format for example. (for my own use, mainly data collection type stuff, mobiles, and server related info, basically a database). Once i get the transfering of packet's to and from the server i'll design a front end to it which will allow shard owners to build up a big database of shard information they want, relating to 'A' server. Basically functions like, check what commands player X used, how many times people use things like 'I wish to release this' etc etc. Why ??? lol because i'm mad I'm trying to get my head around the packet protocols between server and the console application i'm working on. Things like remote admin style applications may help but i can't seem to find the right info i might need, or i'm just missing the point myself as this is an area of programming i've not tried to do before. As ever, thanks for any help in advance.

This tutorial describes basics of TCP + UDP and how the packet works.
