Default Quest for Mystical Sextant (Boat Controller)

A couple of days ago, haazen posted a Tiller Bell item that opens a gump when you're on your boat that allows you to click what you want the boat to do, instead of typing commands to your tillerman.

I liked this item so much, that I made an 8-part quest out of this, and am submitting it with haazen's permission.

All credit goes to haazen for this item.

I wrote the quest as a way of giving this item to players without selling/giving on character creation, etc. The item is called a "Mystical Sextant" because the quest requires that you get items for the main NPC to "craft" something. But this Mystical Sextant is exactly the same as haazen's Tiller Bell with a different name, item, and hue. So all credit for this goes to haazen.

DESCRIPTION

This is a quest where you talk to Finlor (main NPC). It has a pretty thick plot-line, more than most quests. He actually has 2 different quest parts for you. First of all, he wants 4 artifacts of the sea. He gives you a letter to take to Orthal in Britain. Orthal requests that you get some lettuce from an Enraged Goat and bring to him. You kill the goats, get the lettuce, hand it in, and he gives you the first artifact as well as a letter for the next NPC. Continue this until you get all 4 artifacts and combine them in the sea chest that Finlor gave you. Give this to Finlor and you start the 2nd part of your quest.

After giving the Full Master of the Sea Chest to Finlor, the 2nd part of the quest begins. It's basically the same thing with different NPC's/Mobiles, and you get the 4 items and combine them into the Seafarer's Tool Kit he gives you. Then hand this Completed Seafarer's Tool Kit to him to receive the Mystical Sextant.

All mobs have a drop rate of 1 in 8, except the final mob, called Rackham the Bloody Pirate. He will always drop the "Seafaring Bracelet" (item needed at the end for Commodore Arathan in Buc's Den), as well as a Level 1 T-Map. The mobs are fairly easy for customized shards, so change as you wish.

REQUIREMENTS

Nothing except about 5-10 minutes of your time to set it up.

INSTALLATION

Simply download the file, unzip into your customs folder, restart your server.

There is a set-up document that goes into detail about how to set this quest up.

SET-UP (This is also more detailed in the set-up document included in the download)

Quest Mob set-up:

1. Finlor - Add Finlor where ever you wish to begin this quest....anywhere.
2. Orthal - Add Orthal at loc "1487, 1757, -2" on docks in Britain.

9. Arathan - Add Arathan at loc "2751, 2165, -2" on docks in Buccaneer's Den.

Creature set-up:

6. DrunkenOrc - Spawn 7-10 of them at loc "944, 2247, 0" with spawn range around 40.
7. WaterSerpent - Spawn 7-10 of them at loc "3001, 3592, 15" with spawn range around 40.
8. Rackham - Spawn ONLY ONE of him at loc "2794, 2273, 10" with spawn range around 50.

That's all you need to do. Now your players can talk to Finlor and start their quest.

OPTIONS

There is one small difference between this and what haazen posted. I have commented out the lines that take 2 gold from the player's backpack for each command (following haazen's instructions). If you wish to keep this in, then in the MysticalSextant.cs, take out the // in line 102 that shows this.....

Code:
if ( pack != null ) // && pack.ConsumeTotal( typeof( Gold ), 2 ) )
...and change it to this......

Code:
if ( pack != null ) && pack.ConsumeTotal( typeof( Gold ), 2 ) )
You can also change the amount of gold consumed for each command from 2 to whatever.

Another option is to require Tokens to be used instead of gold, if you're looking for more ways to better utilize any token system you may have. Just a thought.

Modify this quest anyway you see fit. All I ask of you is that you do NOT take out the top 3 lines on the MysticalSextant.cs that gives credit for this script to haazen. He didn't ask me to do this, but I did it anyway, cause it's his idea. Thanks for giving me permission to submit this quest haazen. And great job on your boat control script.

That's all. Hope you can use it and hope your players will enjoy it......

Oh, didn't know that. I just got on a website for a "pirate name generator" and it came up with Rackham. I've never even heard of that game. But change the names as you wish.

I'm running a custom map.. will changing locations screw anything up other than tweaks to the "directions" players recieve in the quest?

No, changing the locations shouldn't mess anything up. I didn't make this quest to a point that upon an action (like handing an item in) a mob spawns in a particular location, like I did in my Beginner Equipment Quest. The only issues that people should run into is if they have a similar mob name or quest item name that is used more than once.

All you should have to do is change the necessary gumps, and place the quest mobs and creatures anyplace you prefer.

This sounds very fun for players. I plan to give it a try. And thanks for giving me a mention.

One thing I need to point out before the calls come in, the MysticalSextant.cs /TillerBell.cs Will only work on RunUO version 1.0.0. Will not work on previous version.

Nice work, I'll give it a whirl.

There is a correction by the way Skarth to the suggested code you wrote above...
Just have to mention it or else if you follow the suggested code from above you will get like 8 errors...

You wrote:

Code:
if ( pack != null ) && pack.ConsumeTotal( typeof( Gold ), 2 ) )

It should be:
if ( pack != null && pack.ConsumeTotal( typeof( Gold ), 2 ) )

***You put 1 too many brackets ommiting some of the code when it tries to load...***

Great script though...keep it up...
