Default RunUO Devs - Nice Work

First of all, let me say that I'm new to posting here, but have been watching the emu community with some interest since the first project got underway. I've been a huge fan of the Ultima Series (even Ascension, bugs and all) since I first played Ultima II on the Apple ][+. I, too, was disappointed with what EA/OSI did to the mythos and lost potential of the rich world Ultima originally embodied.

By trade, I'm a Sr. Development Project Manager - I specialize in N-Tier applications and database design and implementation on the technical side, but I'm usually called into situations where Good Devs meet Bad Management, to clean it up, and put it back on track.

I just thought I'd write a note to the team here - awesome job, guys. In it's Beta stage, the RunUO project has unquestionably been more stable, reliable, and progressing more steadily than some of the multimillion dollar projects I've worked on with teams of more than 50 developers involved. You also are taking a quasi-Product Management approach, which is unarguably (some would say obviously ) the key to acceptance by your target audience, and therefore a successful project.

You have a great product on your hands, and look forward to seeing it completed.

I have a ton and a half of questions from professional curiosity, and a few observations, but don't want to detract from this particular note - hope you've read this, and keep up the good work!!!!

As Wilfred Brimly said: "It's the right thing to do." Of course, the commercial was about oatmeal, but we all know he meant RunUO.

...on that, Ryan Always looking to learn something new

I'm currently on contract in the Offshore SportsBook industry in Costa Rica (one of those weird Canucks originally) which means that Friday to Monday are pretty hectic. Have created an AIM account - Rigmore203, and will be in touch when we've both got time to chat.

Thanks much!!

I'm pleased by RunUO's choice of tech... I'm in the middle of my fifth major rollout over dotnet. We're able to do in days and weeks with dotnet what once took us months in java2. Just federating data sources across the enterprise has been breathtakingly effective - and none of the overhead of EJB.

Once you guys get the server nailed it's time for a community effort on the client side. No commercial enterprise out there can still touch UO for rich gameplay. And Bioware's halfhearted pass with player-run servers was a massive disappointment to me.

After just an hour of playing around this former Sphere moderator is sold on RunUO.
