When the next version is released, will i still be able to use my old save files, or will i have to start building from scratch? Ta Oridan

Yes and No.
It depends. They probably won't change the actuall save routine so in that aspect you will probably have no problem. The only thing that might be incompatible is if they modify some items and stuff without making the serialize and deserialize methods support the older version. If they are'nt updated to support loading of older stuff, then it won't be 100% backwards compatible, otherwise it will. But the devs usually make them backwards compatible, so i think you should be pretty safe unless they make some big changes. But since this is beta, you should expect that a release might not be backwards compatible, hence you should avoid decorating the world unless you feel comfortable with the fact that you might have to ( if unlucky ) redecorate it all. |

Saves are backwards compatible as long as an items base class is not changed.
at this point, you can expect that there will be some of that, and the fact is that you will loose all items of that type however your world will still load. enjoy. |

As a matter of fact, in beta 11 you will have to delete all the horses in your world :-P
