arlight.. ive been thinking.. ive got all sorts of extra computers now.. (due to my company building and resleing comptuers) and ive been thinking.. do you think its possible that you could set up a dedicated "save" computer?

heres wut i mean

main server -- run as usual cept NO world saves
Save computer -- every 10min saves.. doesnt run RUNUO

here is how it owul dwork

main server is normal then the save coputer would connect to server acess the current stats send all the info though the network save it onto its comptuer not lagging the server..

nifty eh..

Q&A!

Q: when the server starts how will i get the saves?
A: it would connect similar to the way it saves.. but backwards

Q: wouldnt sending the info cause stress?
A: doughtful.. all the info is sent anyways.. and its not prossing it

Q: i dont got a nother comptuer
A: OPTINAL FOO!

Q: sounds good.. but wouldnt it take longer to load?
A: yes.. take a extra 45sec onto the load then minus the savestates.. you still save alot of time

Q: i dont got a network set up
A: well.. not hard.. im shure we could help you

Q: ok i like the idea.. where do i get it?
A: harass the core developers not me :P

Right now, the actual RunUO processing time for saves is about 60% of the save time you see, so if you were to send that over the network, you'd only save 40% of them time (if you had a 10 sec save it would be cut to 6 or 7 sec)...

You can see this by doing World.SaveOption = World.SaveType.Threaded in an init script some place, this will cause runuo to use a little more memory while saving, but all disk I/O will be done in a different thread, you'll see about a 1/4 decrease in your save time using this. Though, if you close runuo while its still writing the data (up to 30 seconds or more AFTER it says "save complete") you will loose the world file.

My shard has 1070 accounts, 20-30 players at any time and saves under 0.8 secs. Fully spawned. Save time bothers us not.
