Script Sharing and RunUO ? - RunUO

I wanted to know if the RunUO community would be interested in sharing their scripts over Script Sharing which is a web site dedicated to sharing scripts based on a library system. Some may already know about it since many left Sphere for RunUO. This site has been running for more than 2 years already and has been very successful with the SphereServer community. After accumulating a large variety of scripts, the site has been improved over and over until it has reached its current state.

I am now suggesting your community to share your scripts over the same site, to make the sharing of scripts easier for everyone.

In fact, the library of Script Sharing offers these strenghts:

-Scripts can have any length unlike the maximum post length on a forum
-Scripts are very well ordered in their respective section
-Libraries (authors' sections) can be browsed in three different ways
-Submitted scripts are flagged as new during 6 days
-The library can be searched through using a search engine based on PhpBB's
-Scripts which improve over time may be organised with the versionning system
-10 random scripts are selected from the whole library every day to be displayed on the main page
-Script authors may be contacted using their profile information when it is available
-Download counters give an idea of the appreciation of every script
-Download counters keep trace of the current month downloads, last month downloads and total downloads
-Scripts can be associated to specific server versions

With all of these advantages the Library of Script Sharing provides, I hope your community will be interested in sharing your scripts over it.

Not sure if we should take away from the Script Submission area on this site.

People will stop posting here and post there then we have to tell them about script sharing, ect, ect

Seems like more work.

I know Amlaruil has the needed experience to run a site like this but, again not sure its the best for the community.

We no longer have a "post" limit on scripts since the script submission area.

I would be interested in sharing; though I don't make that many. I believe RunUO should take every opportunity to spread throughout the UO Community as much as possible. If scripts start popping up all over websites, people will be inclined to learn more about the capabilities of RunUO.

If there are other places to spread, RunUO should... Spread like a f'n virus. :twisted:

Amlaruil had done a great job with his scriptsharing site over the years. I disagree with the isolationist mentality. Besides, scripts can be shared elsewhere regardless of what some might want. I support the idea myself. I still use RunUO.com as my absolute source for everything RunUO, but there's room for other's to provide a resource library.

Well I just took a look at this site and i must say its a nice site. too bad everything is based on sphere. I think if we do start using this site alot of people will get confused on what is what. I mean most people who would go here to get scripts would not know what does what. I think we should keep the runuo comunity away from all the others. If we start mixing we will get mass confusion. Just my thought

I will clarify a few things that I may have been unclear about according to the answers Phantom has given to my first post.

First of all, I am not saying "Take out the submission area on this site", I am only offering you to use Script Sharing's established resources.

As for the post limit, I didn't mean the amount of posts, but the length of a post.

Concerning shadeuo's comments, the forums are tending a lot more towards Sphere as I can provide scripting help myself and Sphere has been the first community to be involved with Script Sharing. Although the library system is meant to offer scripts from any server, Sphere, RunUO, POL, UOX and any other for which people want to submit scripts. The search engine also makes it easy to find scripts for a specific server version and I have a little of work left to do before users can customize their accounts according to the server they use. If you still think there could really be confusions between the server versions, I am opened to any suggestion that could prevent such confusion from taking place.

Now I have two questions for you.

First of all, what's the meaning of "wankers" Phantom? Couldn't find that one in the dictionary! :P

And what does your comment mean Ryan? Maybe it was meant to be obvious but I don't get it. :?

One last thing... It is nice to see some known faces over here

And that includes Krazy_zack, Phantom and JadeFist. shadeuo rings familiar to my mind but I can't be sure I am not mistaking.

But besides that I mean those admins that choose to use every custom script they can find just for the hell of it.

I was replying to Perfectwing about getting more people to join this community. The only people that would join from a "Scripting" resource site are wankers well alot of them will be.

One of the advantages I see is in the things RunUO.com does not want to deal with (and rightfully so.) By this I mean advertising your shard other than UO Gateway, advertising for staff or positions, or actually requesting scripts. I fully understand and support the rules against those here, but there is a need for that type of dialog in the community. And for a site to support that type of dialog, hosting scripts is almost a requirement.

I don't think another scripting site will detract from RunUO, but rather complement it. It is a sign of a growing community and I belive it to be quite healthy.

I too am a nay-sayer, I see too many possible problems with having the scripts spread out too much. Maybe if there was a way to have Amlaruil work with the team here to aid in modifications to our existing site, those problems would be averted.

There was never an issue with sphere and the scripts...

I think people are just afraid of change...

The idea is to have it sactioned by the RunUO core team and then make a SIMPLE post saying:

Thats the only reason Script Sharing is popular it had a very good start and was a good source.

The problem I see is people will use both. People will start posting bad script and people will come here for support.

May as well keep everything here.

Krazy if you like Sphere so much to go there, please don't compare there with here.

So which link do you provide first, the one for Script Submissions on this site, or the one on that site? It has nothing to do with fear of new things, I think I've demonstrated that in the past. It also has very little to do with Sphere scripts. I see problems inherent in a transfer of a section of this site to the control of a different administration. That simple.

Who said anything about control of anything? Your points are feeble and unfounded. The only thing that having a 3'rd party sanctioned site where people can go to submit scripts (as well as here on the forum) will do is improve the community.

Anyway if you two are the only 'nay-sayers' then I don't think A's got any reason NOT to make a section for RUO and then ask for official sactioning...
