More on Mahjong:

A new mini-game is appearing in Ultima Online: Mahjong!

As part of a new retail release of UO in Japan, we have developed a new Mahjong mini-game. Mahjong, if you’re not familiar with it, it is a popular game around the world—although you may have seen it played with alternate rules or names (such as “Shanghai,” “Riichi,” or “Haka”).

When it’s release to all shards worldwide, we’ll provide you with an instruction guide describing how to manipulate the game board and understand the rules of the game itself. In the meantime, we’re going to be testing the Mahjong board mechanics on our test center shard—feel free to log into the test center and try your hand at this new mini-game. We’ve just released a game client patch update, and that patch includes the artwork for the Mahjong game (everyone will be updated with this art automatically). Next week, you’ll be able to play Mahjong on all production shards worldwide.

Like checkerboards and chessboards, you’ll be able to buy Mahjong boards from any NPC provisioner. You can double-click the board to enter a game, and up to four players can play per board.

Once in a Mahjong game, you’ll be able to move game pieces around the board or flip them over (by double-clicking them) or rotate them (by right-clicking them). If you’re playing an actual game, you’ll also be able to select a dealer and win points.

Ultima Online’s 6th Anniversary month continues, and we hope all our Mahjong players around the world enjoy UO’s newest mini-game!
