Default Please offer suggestions for this......

Please do not flame me, or tell me Im stupid for trying to do this.... I am posting this because I would like some input from the Runuo Dev. community concerning what I am about to do to my shard. If you have any constructive critisim, or suggestions that would help me accomplish the project stated in the quote box below, any help will be appreciated. I allready know how to do this... but just in case Ive missed anything, or if you think that I MIGHT miss something, please tell me.

Tonight, I posted the following announcement on the update page of my UO Server website:

Quote:
MAJOR SHARD OVERHAUL COMING: As many of you are aware, Dracolique, the head administrator of AA, has NEVER been a fan of the changes that the AOS (Age Of Shadows) "upgrade" brought to the game of Ultima Online.... yes, it is true that some things in AOS are cool... such as the new necromancer spells, and pretty little damage points floating over your head when you get hit, but the negative effects far outweigh the positive. for instance, the HUGE increase in the requirements for most weapons and armor... the complete weaking of animals and monsters all around, the screwing of the economic system, and the unbalanced advantages of necromancers over other player types. So, in accordance with the way that things are done on this shard, a compromise has been reached.... it is in development as we speak, and will probably be implemented in the next couple days.... the compromise is as follows:

1) First, just to set your mind at ease, AOS is NOT being disabled... this means that those of you who have necromancer characters will not have to restart.... also, all of the pretty little surface features that AOS provides will still be in effect after the compromise.

2) All animals and creatures in the game are going to be converted back to their pre - AOS forms.... meaning that how hard they hit, how many hit points they have, ETC. WIll once again be determined SOLELY by the stats of the animal or creature itself, instead of being a predefined ammount that was independent of the stats of the animal/creature... this is how AOS currently functions. This means that most animals and monsters in the game will become somewhere in the area of TWICE their current difficulty. Do not despair, howerver... read on.

3) ALL aspects of the game will be Re-evaluated and rebalanced to their pre-AOS glory.... armor and weapon requirements and stats will change, the commerce will be fixed, and stat, skill gains will be increased by 1/8 of their current gain rate. Also, the effectiveness of ALL combat skills other than Necromancy will be increased by 1.5 to 2 times their current effectiveness, in order to balance out the new monster difficulties. Necromancy effectiveness will probably not be altered.... and if it is, it will not be increased nearly as much as other combat skills. This should help to balance out the advantage that Necro players now hold over players of other types.

4) Many other changes will be made over the course of the next two days as well, in order to ensure a completely balanced gameplay experience for all.

My only suggestion is to stick with the vision that you want your shard to become and always listen to your players for new ideas and improvements, but always, always stick to your guns when developing your shard. After all, that's why you're using RunUO in the first place, right? To create your own world.

I'm one of the many UO vets who despise most of the changes AOS brought to the game and I've disabled it on my shard, but have yet to run into any problems...

Default well, thanks

I appreciate everyones opinion... positive and negative alike. Anyway, if you think I might have overlooked something that should be changed in order to accomplish this task, please inform me of it. I will do all the scripting and modifications for this myself, but Im not familiar with every single little change that AOS put in..... so, advice will be appreciated.

Default oh, and bleis

Bleis, I appreciate your suggestion, however, AOS has been running on my shard for a while.... and many of my players allready have well-develeped necromancer accounts.... so I think it would be unfair of me to force these players to restart their characters..... if I hadnt enabled AOS in the first place, then I wouldnt have to worry about it. Thats why Im doing this.

Default necros?

since when do necros have advantages overo ther players? Pallys are way worse than necros dude. For example, Consecrate Weapon renders armor pretty much useless. Divine fury makes you teh UBER dexxer, I believe its +hit chance and makes u 75ssi. So penalize the pally dexxers, not the necros. Your shard tho, your call.

[edit]Necros dont even have a travel spell.

Default thanks

see now, THAT was what I was looking for!!..... that is something I wasnt aware of, and obviously missed....... I will have to nerf paladins as well, I guess. Thats precisely the kind of post I was looking for. I havent played on OSI shards since about 4 months after T2A first came out...... So theres alot I dont know about what I do and dont need to nerf in order to balance my shard.

thanks, neon

The pali was better for PvM, and the necro was better for PvP on OSI. OSI did some balancing though, so the Runuo team may have done the same.
I would up all the character classes the same, and then lower the ones that seem too overpowered after some testing, as with changes to monster stats etc, ya never know how the classes will make out.
Also if your shard is PvP as well, take that into account when changing character class. Things such as damage, cast rate, swing rate etc. will greatly effect PvP as well as PvM
