Default Custom map and items

Well, I've been working on a server for my friends myself and basically any good hard core role player that asks, but what I'm wondering is how many of you out there are actually willing to try a shard with all custom files?

It seems to me all the big emulated servers are standard OSI map.

I'm not advertising BTW, I'm simply asking if you're willing to download files in general? Are there any criterea the servers must meet? etc. etc.

I also have a custom map... It's also in progress, but I've opened it to the public "to check out" in the past.. My experience based on asking players in my normal shard is that they would love the chance to download something new and unique.. Even if it's the OSI map with added content 'frozen'. But yeah, whole nnew map is very popular.. Gotta remember, like in my case, the mul files come to about 75MB. However, when they are rar'd up for use with UOG (or private distribution) they shrink down to about 9 MB.. Which, for the experience is not much at all!

Default I've got...

I have the standard OSI Map, however, I wanted to make a custom map. But, when i went to test it I ended up fucking up my UO installation to the point where i COULDNT uninstall it, so I had to install the game *again* in a different directory. lol. I even tried chkdsk and shredding my map0.mul (the file that it couldnt delete)

I am currently working on a custom map. What I'm doing is releasing my server to the public in an "Alpha" stage with only a little bit of the map done(so far only like two or three towns, quite a bit of the wild, and maybie three or four dungeons) and setting Test Center mode on, so players can get on and check everything out, and participate in events and stuff. Then as the shard is up and everyone are enjoying it as it is, I'll work on the map even more and release more and more of the map with every UOGateway patch. Creating a map all in one is tedius but whenever you are doing it piece by piece and with the support of players it's alot easier.

I'm running custom hues, zacks mounts and a custom map. tho i just shut the server down because after playing on the map for 2 months i found a few mistakes I just couldnt live with. So once again im making another map last one took a month to throw together this one is 3 weeks in the progress and not even a scratch of it is done. advise from an experianced mapper "dont think you'll throw a map together in a few days there is so much more to a map that what you think. most of the stuff you dont see till you forget it in your own map and your world looks blank."
recently i was searching the web for good uo junk and ran into this page >http://www.profania.net/Dossier_v3.1/< after seeing this map and the detail i thought my map was good till i seen this one. now its kinda my inspiration on making my new one.

I'm trying to do custom maps, but I can't draw very well so it's taking forever.

I agree, seriously, that's one of the most spectacular custom maps I've ever seen.

Rule #1 in custom map design.. DO NOT use the install Directory files Copy all files ya need to a seperate dir - (I keep mine in the RunUO folder under UO)... That way, if things go awry, you can always copy fresh OSI-accurate files back again Also remember that when running the shard, you'll need to edit the datapath.cs to reflect your new map file location. The datapath file also lists all files that will be needed..

Also.. <shameless_request> Has anyone found a worldbuilding/creating tool that'll work (not worldforge) </s_r> Or is the only way to run around and build in-game, as I've been doing

Building ingame is the best thing to happen to the EMU community as far as I'm concerned. [freeze and [unfreeze are godsends

If sombody has a MAP editing tool that is FASTER than WF (worldforge takes WAY to much time to RE-DRAW weh you are editing LARGE areas) I would appreciate a link to it.
