Default About the downtime, why we were down and where we are going.

I would like to take a few minutes to let you know why we were down, what all is going on and where we will be going from here.

As many of you know I was slated for re-deployment to Iraq with the Marine Corps Reserves, however that deployment was cancelled for whatever reason. I dont know exactly why and I wont even begin to speculate but I had to live my life like I was going and that meant cancelling the services that housed the RunUO community.

As you can see, I have got them back online, and I am working to keep them online. We ran up just a tad over 7 thousand dollars in hosting bills between RunUO.com and UO Gamers in just over a year. In other words we use a fuckload of bandwidth.

People have asked about setting up mirrors and doing this and that, and every time we tell them no we wont do it. We cant control it therefore we cant garuntee our users a safe download. As some of you know (the IRC guys) the reason the site has been down is I am flat out strapped for money. I didnt get paid by my job or the Marines for the last month and its really hurt. I have caught everything up and wrote the check for 405.32 for RunUO.com's last hosting bill today.

Now, a lot of you guys emailed or IM'ed me regarding the possibility of donating to get RunUO.com back up and running and I told all of you to wait until it was back up and running. Well, here is your chance. If you want to help out I give you the option to do so via paypal or snail mail with the information below:

Paypal:

ryan@runuo.com

Snail Mail:

Interactive Intelligence

Indianapolis, IN 46278

I assure you that any donations put forward will be soley for RunUO.com bills and server upgrades, nothing more. I really need to updgrade it to the next level of hosting but at this time cannot afford to

So this is how I figure it... 26,000+ users donate 50 cents USD each and we get 5% of those 26,000 would equal out to about 650 dollars. This should cover our new host for roughly a year

Up to you guys, but if you do donate or donate again please post on this thread to let us know, so that we can hook you up Ensure you put your donation email addy on here.

Thanks!

Same here, donated that last time (seemed to get slipped under the cover somewhere), and now also, for the third time. I don't have scripting skills to offer the community, so I try to offer assistance in the forums. I think donating is the best thing I can do to truly support the community, and will come to the plate whenever possible.

Ryan - rooster AT lanfest DOT dyndns DOT org, same as the last two times, and same as the next to come in the future

Default if you want.....

Well, i had no idea that RunUO.com was costing you so much for upkeep. I wont offer a mirror.... however, I WILL offer to host it for you for free if you ever decide that its just too much upkeep.

I have a dedicated OC3-equivilant connection that I use for my shard..... but I dont use NEARLY all that bandwidth. Ryan, if you ever decide that runuo needs to move, please consider this as an option. I pay NOTHING for the connection, and so it wouldnt be fair of me to charge you for it either.

No matter what happens, ill be donating to your cause with my next paycheck.

Donation sent mere moments ago.
A tad bit over the 50 cents suggested... hope you don't mind

I'd prefer not to post my email here, I can PM it to you if you wish.
Thanks for all you do, and I'm glad to hear you're not shipping out.

Just Paypal'd a few dollars your way, Ryan. Sorry it's not much but I'm a bit strapped myself at the moment

Prefer not to put my email here - but my nick and email address should be in the 'notes' of my donation.

Hope it helps 8)

Thank you for all your hard work and efforts and time. It means alot to all of us who cant do alot but sit in one place due to disabilities. As I am one of those who are disabled I am unable to send you money at this time but if and when I can i will. RunUO has been a God Sent Gift. Please keep up the good work. Default My donation yet to come

Where would we be without UORUN and UO? I'll be sending, on my next pay period (3-26-04). Since I'm on a tight budget, I can't send the big $$ that I've seen thus far by others but I'm sure every little bit help's.

Wow 50 cents is nothing really I would love to get my friends I know in real life to donate to UOG. Such a good shard you have my friend. I really would pay 5-10 a year for your shard to have it running smooth.
