Cool Building a new computer for running RUO need advice

Hello fellow RUO Runners,

I figured this might be the best place for this because this is the part of the forum where the most bizarre things are asked ^_^ that being said heres what im planning on having my system contain:
PROCESSOR: either the AMD ATHLON XP 3200+ or AMD ATHLON 64 FX (but is the price of the 3200+ vs the 64 worth the extra money????)

MOTHERBOARD:ASUS nForce2 Ultra 400 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket A CPU, Model "A7N8X-E Deluxe" -RETAIL

MEMORY: 512 X2 (1 gigabyte) DDR 400, PC3200 im still working on this, because i want to make sure i get good ram.

VIDEO CARD: ATI RADEON 9600XT Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP -RETAIL $178.00

HARDDRIVE: Seagate 120GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive, Model ST3120026A, OEM $90.00

That should be all that matterz, please post any comments on this setup below V

If you're using this to host a shard and only a shard, get a piece of crap video card, you don't need a Radeon for RunUO.

My advice in this case would be to ditch the Athlon, and go with an Intel Xenon CPU. Hyperthreading makes a huge difference in a server. Also, if you want to speed up saves, go with a 10000rpm drive over a 7200. Also, if you can afford it, get 1gig of RAM, anything you can do to keep the OS from paging out memory to teh hard drive will speed things up.

I wouldn't do it if you are serious about the server. Anything you do do should be low on RAM access, and very low on any resource use, really. If you seriously need a 128 MB video card, you obviously intend to play some serious games and/or do 3D work. In that case, you're better off putting the 128 MB card in another box.
