Default Just out of curiousity....

do any RunUO admins here feel it is unreasnoble for a player to ask to be informed of the rules that would result in jailing, kicking and/or banning?

Just curious, because a certain server which I won't name had both admins refuse to do so.

Why would they intentionally make more work for themselves by not telling the players the rules? That's just silly.

On my shard it is the players responsibility to read the rules, almost all shards have websites, and almost all shards have a rules page, so i dont see why players can't read them for themselves.

I guess this was in some way unclear...

By being informed I mean put somewhere where its findable by all players...

Ignacio,
I have no idea =0 But certain admins have decided to do that and as a result I refuse to play there now. I was just wondering if anyone considered such reasnoble.

Well Like it was said most shards have webpages with rules I don't see the harm in telling a player to reads the rules instead of bothering a Gm or admin with questions. Sure most will answer them but as an admin I can tell you we are constantly busy doing something be it scripting, fixing bugs, attending to other players with in game problems, and all other sorts of stuff. I can't see an admin just flatly being rude and say "I'm not telling you the rules." but I do understand them refering you to a rules page of a website.

I believe that the admin/GM should link them to the rules page. And if the player is unclear about a situation or scenario where a rule may come into play, and they need help understanding if, and how, the rules apply, then the staff should explain to the player. Sometimes rules can be ambiguous, or just written very shitty, in which case a staff member is obligated to explain it more thoroughly if asked. If they don't, then I don't believe the player is at fault if a crime is made.

Of course you are all talking about how it works on a well managed shard.

If it's a couple of kids playing god, then the best answer is to move on to a real shard.

I can see why those admins might do this. If a player is informed of these types of rules they'll try to use them as an excuse for when the player commits a serious enough act to permit banning simply because it isn't written. I can see them saying something like, "It isn't against the rules." In fact this can cause chaos among your player base because your player base would be incline to agree with the faulting party just because the rule isn't written.

If such rules are written it is very important to make sure the first or last rule is something along the lines of staff discretion. This way the player can't use the excuse,"It isn't against the rules."

And how many of the unwritten rules would require banning after the first infraction and subsequent addition to the writen rules?

A couple of you seem to be not understanding me,

There is no *rules page* on the webpage.
There is no rules written down anywhere in the game except for a couple neither of which appeared to be enforced.

o0 I moved already =0 Just not happy about the lack of population =(
