No file replaced it. Newest clients don't require it.

However, the client will use it if it is present.

Verdata only has 2D data... Why would 3D use it?

Wasn't trying to be. Trust me, you'd have known if I was ;->

Anyway, it's called drawing out the conclusion.

Had I just said "3D doesn't use it" that doesn't really explain WHY 3D doesn't use it.

Stating that Verdata only has 2D info pretty much sums up WHY the 3D client doesn't use it.

Thus, this way is more of a complete answer. It answers the inital question of "Does 3D use verdata?" as well as giving a quick breakdown as to "Why doesn't 3D use verdata?", which may (or may not) have been a follow-up question.

Granted, however, in hindsight, my inital post SHOULD have read:

Quote:

Default Actually

Actually, this:

However, the 2D client will use it if it is present. The 3D will not.
would have been wrong in the strictest sense. For map and static patches, *dif*.mul files replace the verdata.mul.

This statment,
Quote:

Is also incorrect.

The verdata can patch tiledata.mul, gumps, texmaps, art, which the 3d client does use. It may not use the verdata.mul, but to say it contains only 2d data, is incorrect.

Hrm. You have a point.

I was thinking more along the lines of animations an whatnot.

Listen to punt. He knows more ;->

You can't really. You see the sun goin up in 3D? How would you do that with a mere gump? I guess it's an animation somewhere in the 3d folder...

@psz
Gumps in the 3d client are still 2d you know. They didn't magically gain another dimension.

The sun can't be a tga since it even has a lensflare?!

No but the background is. At least it should be a texture. The Sun is a simple light effect.

That's correct. You can change the background TGA as long as you don't mind the sun

Bringing this up again because i installed a 3d client now.

The sun is _NOT_ a light effect. And the flare isn't either.

Check
models\maps\sun_lbr.tga
models\maps\sun.tga
models\maps\flare.tga
models\maps\flare_lbr.tga

and the fullskydawn_lbr.tga + fullskydawn.tga + yellowishborder_lbr.tga + horizon_lbr.tga + horizon.tga + castle.tga + castle_lbr.tga

Those files control the third dawn login screen. Try renaming the sub + flare textures. Once you do, the sun *and* the flare light effect will be gone.

Cool. Thanks for the info.

Now we need someone to hack that into the 2D client :-)

Forget about that. Although i still hope that some day the osi coders will integrate the intrface.def into their 2d client.
