Sorry I was just really having a hard time believing you do not know what a domain name is and how a change will affect the community. Let me gently point you in the correct direction. the current domain name for runuo is runuo.com. When they say they are changing it means that it will not be runuo.com anymore, but rather some other domain name which they have purchased. Next time I will just jump right in there and point out the obvious.

honestly there could be any number of reasons although I highly doubt it is due to pricing. A domain name is nothing more than a pointer. you could have multiple domain names all pointing to the same server if you wanted. Domain names are for the errors that sit from 14 to 24 inches from the screen so that we may process and record the data easier. for instance it is easier for one to remember silvermist.servegame.com than to remembering 66.204.68.158 both will pull up the same web page if used like this http://silvermist.servegame.com http://66.204.68.158 but which is easier for a human to remember? This is why there are dns servers that translate the words you and I type into the browser address bar into numbers which the routers understand and forward our request to the correct server. Purchasing a Domain name is as simple as choosing a registar and checking for availability, then paying that Registar to store your choice of dns name and propagate it across the other dns servers on the internet so that when we type in www.runuo.com it points to 67.15.18.44 or the ipaddresss of RunUO's webserver.
As Phantom said whats not to understand?

The price on domains vary but only at most a few dollars on any of the domains Ryan would buy.
ie we wouldn't buy a .tv domain as 1) It wouldn't sute us 2) they unlike most domains are expensive because how much would you pay for: stargate.tv or thelostworld.tv or starwars.tv The authors/producers/tv stations have 1000's of dollars on their web budget, thus they would pay a good deal to protect it. Even if they don't use it |
