As I'm sure everyone on this forum knows there is a vast selection out there of C# books to choose from.
Wanting to learn more about scripting myself I am unsure where I should start. I came across this book on the internet a few minutes ago, and I'm just wondering if anyone else may have read this book, and if I should consider it or another. Sams Teach Yourself C# in 24 Hours here is a link ... http://www.samspublishing.com/title/0672322870 thanks Aurastin |

I have heard your book reccomended more than once. My starter book was C# for Dummies which I found to be very helpful.

Overall, I agree. That was the first one I tried in a long time, and it turned out pretty decent.

Thinking in C# (there's a 2nd edition now I think). I personally have only briefly reviewed the book but it looks quite in depth and doesn't focus on long/silly/useless examples like some others books tend to do.

Sams Teach yourself C# is good for the very beginning. It gives you that fuzzy feeling of look, i actually wrote something that looks like a windows app and does something other than echo "hello world" on the console. :-)
Will it allow you to go out and rewrite runuo once you're done with it? Unfortunately not... But you should get a good enough idea of the whole concept to start tackling with some more advanced C# books that you'll need as well. |

I still think C# and Game Programming: A Beginner's Guide is still the best book for learning C#. It's more fun than any of the other books and it teaches you well. It also has a great appedix with all the C# operators and samples and definitions of each one; so you'll still be using it when you become more advanced!

As someone that has been trying to learn C# in thier spare time I have bought several books so far.
C# for dummies has a very good beginning but for someone that has no programming history it dropped me about half way through the book. Inside C# written by Tom Archer is a very good book it gives you a great look at the C# Architectual Structure and is now in its Second Edition and is published by Microsoft Press. My latest book i got from my wife for my birthday is C# Complete published by Sybex and seems to be a really good book if you have VS.NET and are interested in programming in Visual C# and design, developing, Windows Applications and munipulating Databases. The only SAMs book that i have read is the Teach yourself SQL in 10 minutes and it was very very good. |

As you progress, I'd suggest picking up "C# Black Book" by Matt Telles, available from Coriolis. It's intended for the more intermediate to advanced user with some background in another language like Java or C++, featuring solutions to problems you might run into with some of the more advanced aspects of the language.
As for your initial selection, I'd have faith in any Sams Teach Yourself book. I used their book for C++ when I moved into that language from Java. Very nice overall. -Hal |
