Experiance in other languages such as C++ would certianly help, but do not confuse C++ with C#. They are two different languages entirely.
Since RunUO uses C# and VB.Net as scripting languages (C# being the standard) a good solid basis in one of those languages is most important. I would suggest an introductory book on C# for most fledgling scriptors but there are many good websites on that topic as well. Unfortunatly there are only a few tutorials aimed at getting a scriptor started with RunUO. I am sure you have seen the one I am working on, there are a couple more on this site as well. I am not aware of any others--but I've never looked either. I would sure love to see more out there though.

The way I like to learn the language is by taking a random script, "butchering" (modding) it and analyzing the results I get after compiling. If some commands do not make sense I refer to the manual or just research it on the net (google of course
). Fixing errors in other people scripts does the job too. Books usually confuse you with shitload of useless theory and concepts. My way is not really common, but it works for me. |
