Question with regards to the "Legality" of RunUO

Hello all

A friend of mine started a discussion on Stratics about player run shards and it was quickly locked (heh, no comment)

But a few, ignorant, rude people posted that RunUO itself was illegal, as it was to connect to a player run shard.

My question(s) are...
IS it illegal/legal to connect to a player run shard?
and
IS RunUO breaking the law by providing such an emulator?

My own guess is no, that connecting to a shard isn't breaking any actuall laws, only EA's TOS, but it could be an issue if shards were to charge for access.
And my 2nd guess being, RunUO itself isn't illegal, as it's open source and doesn't use any code/graphics/stuff from UO itself.

im pretty sure runuo uses all the graphics from uo lol
but its legal, i know that for sure.

Actually, "I'm pretty sure" RunUO uses None of the graphics from Uo. All RunUO does is tell your client what graphics to display.
