Exclamation UO & Mac Compatiblity

Is there a way to get UO (either AoS or SE) to work on mac without having to use an emulator?

No, UO is built for Windows machines (though there is a Linux client). It's the same reason you can't run Mac products on another operating system. Just get VirtualPC or another emulator, there's no other way.

Er, yeah you could write a custom client, I suppose.... But not many people here care enough about Mac compatability to write one. You're free to try, however.

If Krrios wanted to he could add support for Mac via Mono support with his client.

The only thing you would ran into is DirectX support, and the fact thats all Microsoft.

A mac client would be really nice if anyone wants a challenge. I would try to, but I kinda suck at coding.

Iris isn't yet playable (Devs themselves say so). MIssing WAY too many features.

The Linux UO client is from the T2A era. It wouldn't work on any modern servers.

Yeah, but the rumors say their next version might be somewhat playable, and it's always good to point people to nice projects like that

i dont think EA would stoop as low as putting it on MAC, maybe linix compatable but the cost of hiering MAC coders, packaging, shiping, distributing the mac os platform compatable or sepreate client wouldent be ebnificial considering MAC os users are becoming more and more in the minority, as linux users are growing and windows users hold steady.

EA has many endeavors on the Macintosh, and you contradict yourself since if you knew anything about a Mac you would know that they run on top of a Linux distribution. Also, I don't believe Mac users are becoming any less prevalent, since I've never heard of one Mac user converting to IBM architecture, but many the other way around. I'm not defending Macs, but I think it's rather ignorant to say it would be 'stooping low' to support them. If they did have the userbase for it, they would do so. And the original question was not whether EA would support it, it was whether or not it was possible to run it.

To Shinji, it seems easiest to just run VirtualPC, once again. Here's a screenshot of someone with a PowerPC running RedHat while emulating MacOS, with Windows on VirtualPC.

I used an emulator on my old Mac to be able to play Ultima Online. It was not
running smooth do, it was rather impossible to walk through crowded areas. This
was a few years ago but I'll look it up and see if I can find any information about it for you.
