Question Request: Progress Report on Runuo 2 Please

Greetings to Ryan and the Dev Team!

Just asking if we could get a progress report on the status of Runuo 2.

I, like many other loyal Runuo fans are waiting to see just what excellence you guys come up with next.

This is not meant as a "Hurry up and release it, already!" or similar.
Just a "How is the project going?".

Last official word was back in October '05.

I understand that you want to hold off and make sure it is as bug-free as possible, and let's face it, WE would also like the release to be as bug-free as possible as well

So, please throw us a bone every now and then, even if it's only a "We're approximately 70% complete" or "Progress is a bit slow lately" or "We took a week off for RL considerations" etc etc.

Let's face it, as long as we keep asking about it, you know that you are coding something that will be wanted and appreciated.

Many thanks,

Giric

They keep it kind of closed up and not giving release dates for a reason, this makes them feel less pressured to finish quickly, and gives them more time to do what they want, with lots of love =)

Some slightly more encouraging words would have been nice, but what am I gonna do?

I asked nicely... Oh well

thing is you asked. The devs have already said don't ask, "essentially", in one thread or another, so i'm actually suprised you got a response of anykind. It will be ready, when it's ready. No sooner than that.

Here a more specific but equally useless answer:
-We don't have a solid "goal" where we can reach it and say "2.0 is done." Its sort of fluid, sure we having things we know we want in it.... but we don't have enough of an idea to give any sort of percentage answer for this type of thing. Besides, those types of answers get you in trouble. (OMG you said 90% 2 weeks ago. You should be done NOW or I'm gonna DDoS you omgomgomg).
-All of us take a lot of "time off" for RL concerns. I think you have the wrong image about this in your head. I take "time off" from RL in order to put time into RunUO... not the other way around. (As is true with all the rest of the Devs). I think we're all more busy than anyone realizes.
To name a few things:
-Mark is in college
-I am in Graduate school
-I just got married
-All of us have jobs
-Krrios just moved to a new city and started a new job
-All of us run outside projects (PlayUO, Razor, UOGamers shards (4))

So there is a big list of reasons why you are unlikely to hear a real status report about anything we are working on until it comes knocking on your door step.

Whenever it comes out is fine with me, and I think pretty much everyone else here feels the same way. =) We all realize that developer logs, chats, and status reports take away from time that could be spent brainstorming, coding, and testing. (Or enjoying the rest of your life. =) I can't help but be curious, but that's just people's nature.

I'm both a little fearful of and looking forward to RunUO 2.0. I'll probably want to (if not have to) re-write everything I've written for it, since it's a good opportunity to clean out everything in my server and re-evaluate every modification and script I've added or written.

I take "time off" from RL in order to put time into RunUO...

That's about the most succinct way of explaining the hobby nature of this work to those expecting too much that I've seen. I have, of course, been asked many times to contribute to various coding efforts or even shard scripting and what not, which is flattering. But what one has to understand is that the moment such endeavors sound like "work," they don't sound like "fun". I pick projects because they are fun, entertaining, allow me to work on interesting problems and have a glass of wine at the same time. I am not interested in working on anything, really. A little bit of entertainment, a little bit of learning something new--that's more like it.

Ahh, too bad it will never be anywhere near as widespread as the other two though...

Well, I don't care when its release because I know when it is we will ALL LOVE IT and appreciate the work you guys put into it.
