A bunch of my friends showed me this free daoc shard that is running on the Dol emulator (http://dol.psykonikcorp.net/). At first I was a bit skeptical but when I got in game and started fighting on this RvR only server I was sold. Its a very solid emulator, atleast for the 150 players that play on this one server (http://ariadolis.l0rdy.de/).
I downloaded someones RvR server build package that i found on www.rumandcode.com. Its a server that allows players to level to 50 and start fighting. I was looking through the scripts folder and it hit me that hey, maybe it would be possible to make some of the game mechanics better, more like UO. Without the mezzing/stunning/etc Then I realized, why not just make it just like UO? With a sh!tload of the packet protocol/etc figured out and every single aspect of it Open Source, its very possible to recreate UO in the palm of this daoc emulator. The client art, animations and sound are very similar to UO: -the characters in daoc are customizable, items dyable, robes/staffs/swords/shields/etc -the attack system is a toggle system like in UO -the magery attacking uses bolts and explosions -there are animations for stealthing that can be used for UO's hiding -there are mounts -there are houses in daoc I'm not sure really who this thread is directed towards... the playerbase, maybe the runuo developers.. But i just had to point this out because there is a lot of potential here. This would essentially be the next step after RunUO, a shot at what UO2 might have been like if anyone remembers the concepts for it. Thoughts? |

*Takes a look*
Downloaded DoL latest stable build (http://dol.psykonikcorp.net/) and am downloading the DaoC installers now (14 day trial type thing). We'll see if this works when I get time...probably closer to the weekend.

It takes a bit of time to get all the files you need in line... DAoC and the TOA expansion...
Also instead of hosting your own server to test, go to this site, download DAoC portal and connect to a shard with a bunch of players. http://www.daocportal.net/modules/news/ |
