Default Long time, no see... Whats new?

Hello all,

long time, no see...
Well, I was not really that active on the forums, but I did mess a lot with Sphere, and then RunUO when I discovered that.

Due to work, I've been inactive for about 2 years, and am wondering if there's anything new...
Well, I saw RunUO2.0, which is great.

Quick question though.
I installed it, all fine, but... Question about the worldfile.

I noticed the towns look OK (spawned), but the forest etc, not so much.
Is that right?
If so, what is the easiest way to Spawn? Is there like a random spawner?

Or is that worldfile that comes with it already pretty spawned?

Also, I assume there are no OSI like worldfiles out there?

Nerun's Distro will spawn the world for you. If you spawn with XMLSpawner and Nerun's, you will be off to a good start. Instructions are in the XMLSpawner package.

Great, thanks for the answer.
So I have to install that XML Spawner? It does not come with it? Does the package include the Nerun's?
Is it OSI like, or not at all?

Sorry for all the lame questions, but seems I have some catching up to do

They are two separate packages, and no, you do not HAVE to use XMLSpawner, I just happen to think it has much more to offer than the spawner that comes with Nerun's.

Nerun's Distro will spawn much of the world for you (as long as you follow the directions), and I don't know how close it is to OSI, but as far as I know, it is the only spawn package available.

So the short answer is yes AND no.

Yes: It does put out a good amount of creatures and other "spawn" automagically.

No: It may or may not be perfect for what you want to do.

I believe he means if you want an exact OSI duplicate, you're on your own.

Neruns is very close to OSI, however it is not perfect, you will have to rearrange some spawners, however when you do, please tell Nerun which ones are out of whack so he can fix them for the rest of us in his next release.

If you want a system that doesn't use items, you can look into Courageous' Random Encounter Engine. It spawns by region rather than by spawner.

Sadly, it is sorely underused and underappreciated, so C hasn't gotten much headway on improving it. It could become the staple "general" spawner among RunUO freeshards if it was improved upon more (right now, monsters spawn in clumps... with no relation to the direction you're running in... it's also a tad annoying to install and get working).
