Default Codename 'Longhorn' Beta 2

Hi Folks,

I've picked myself up a copy of Codename 'Longhorn' Beta 2 (Brand New, Hard to get) and was wondering if anybody was interested in If/How Well RunUO 2.0 works on it.

If anybody posts interest I'll post my results, if not, this thread'll vanish.

I'm sorta interested.... but I have a feeling the results will be that it will run perfectly fine. I tend to think (and this is just based on past experience) that Microsoft usually makes backward compatibility a high priority when releasing a new server OS. There's that, and the fact that Longhorn is still a ways off yet AFAIK.

Well, the only reason I have to beleive that it might not run, or need work, is because supposedly it crashed on Vista (Although I had no issue with this on Vista Enterprise RTM).

As for release date, the supposed official date is either First Half 2008, or Second Half 2007, I have heard both dates quoted from either Offical Magazines, or People who went to the recent Microsoft Conference here.

So it could be close/far away, but It's definately by at most Second Half 2008 I'd say (Being that some of the features are already completed and/or finalised in Vista, that will just be transfered [IIS7, Setup Stuff, DWM, Sharepoint, etc]).

Hey, I know this is a thread necro, but I'm getting ready to try running a private server on my dad's server that is running Window's 2008/Longhorn right now... I'll update with how it goes.

No, that was the codename for vista, now its the codename for Server 08

Windows Server 2008 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

why microsoft recycles codenames for projects so close together, no one knows.

Is Vista's IIS still crippled? (i.e. can't host more than one domain)

Welp, I've tried everything suggested in the forums, and the server WILL run, but it won't let anyone get past the shard selection screen. It gives the oh-too-common 'Client cannot attach to server' error. I've tried modifying the core like in a FAQ I read, because I was getting some other errors, but to no avail. So, for now, Longhorn is dead to RunUO. Oh well. Would be nice if I didn't have to run this on my own computer...

Ahhh... well, it seems I've found a work around. I just created a virtual machine, installed Window's XP on it, and everything was copy and paste from my desktop for the server files A little port forwarding here, a little un-firewalling there, and now people can connect! I'm so happy
