Default RunWoW :D?

Hi,

I've been a UO fan/player for many years and I was also follower of this project for quite a while...

I discovered Wow less than a month ago and I can just say it's great. I mean, UO was really good on its time, but WoW is amazing.

I was wondering if any of the RunUO devs would be interested in starting a WoW Emu/Server project.

That'd be great ;D

BTW this project already exists and there are several WoW servers in development. If you do a google search you might be lucky to find one. On that note Blizzard is VERY against Player Run Servers and will take legal action. So have a blast on this project.

Blizzard is less than happy about EMUs for WoW.

Blizzard uses their corporate power to sue emulators out of existance.

I don't think I've ever seen anything about them sueing. Threats maybe, but never any action other then cease and desist orders.

If you know XNA (even if its just a little) or are a good artist(2d or 3d) and are interested in making games for a hobby send me a pm or drop by #xna in irc.runuo.com. I'm looking to put together a small game development team.

Please do not pm me for support. If you are having issues please post in the appropriate forum. Thanks for your continued support of both ConnectUO and RunUO

I'm thinking mainly of the famous court case where Blizzard shut down a battle.net emulator (and set a pretty bad precedent for emulators in general - possibly conflicting with other past court cases for emulated software too).

For WoW, I think you're right. None of the cases have gone to court, but they have actively shut down WoW emulators through the typical legal threats and "cease and desist" letters. They certainly have the money and the legal machine to shut down just about anybody before it ever reached court. And I have no doubt Blizzard would follow through with an actual court case, I'm sure the entire battle.net victory has enboldened them.

But we all know they will never stop emulators completely just like the RIAA isn't going to stop the download of MP3's. They just drive them further underground. Anyone with knowledge of bittorrent can find one or more WoW emulators pretty easily.
