Default A UO:R guide a good idea?

I'm thinking of posting a step-by-step guide in the FAQs section on how to set up a UO:R server using RunUO, but since my guide is not fully complete (ie there's still a few things I don't know how to do), the idea is that people can post below, throw their 2 cents in what I've missed (or got wrong) and I could modify it as we go (I'll have at the bottom the things that I need to change). Then when people ask how do I do this or that to make it UO:R etc, just refer them to the guide.

The reasons I ask before posting is:
1. Would that be allowed/the correct forum/a good idea?
2. It will be a lot of text (although I will keep it as brief as possible) - is this the best way to do it? (or should I make it a word document and attach it or something?)

Perhaps later I or someone else could modify it to be a Pre-UO:R one?

Well I wouldnt see why not.

Biengs that this is General Discussion you could probably get away with it. And if its good FAQ and the right steps, they just might even make it a sticky.

Maybe this is good for script support or Script release. But I dont know yet so just stick with the General For now.

O and another thing, to stay safe, Dont post this in StarBucks.

Well it won't really be a FAQ, but more of a guide of everything I've learned up until now with list at the bottom of things that I don't know how to change, but someone that does might be able to post so I can update it OR add something else to the list that was in UO:R that I'd missed.

Haha, it just clicked with me as to why so many people are unhelpful on RunUO... it's because everyone is in competition with each other for the best shard . Everyone's worked so hard to learn how to get their shard running, they're reluctant to share their secrets. It's a conundrum. We all need each other to solve each other's problems, but we also need to be better than the other person's shard so people will have more of a reason to play our shard instead of theirs.

Well I don't care. For me, I'd rather we all share each other's 'secrets' and have very accurate shards than have a whole bunch of shards that simply aren't close enough - The idea is that this will be a guide to get as close to UO:R as possible, then people can find ways to differentiate their own UO:R shards from there.

So which forum should I post it at?
And how long can the posts be?

Sorry about the reply post to myself (or bump or whatever), but it seems no-one's interested so I won't bother posting. Oh well, I guess that was part of the reason I thought I'd ask first, so just as well.

Don't give up simply because a lack of a response. You don't need our permission to post something that could be really useful!

Ok, well these are the contents from the guide (it takes up about 2/3 of a word document page), but I have the entire guide in word format and it's about 10 pages long (2600 words). Will that be too long to put in a normal thread? Or should I post it as an attachment? And to which forum?

Chapter 1 – Installing RunUO and accessories
i) What you will need
ii) What you will want
Chapter 2 – Populating the world
i) Doors and Shop Labels
ii) Monsters and NPCs
iii) Reagent Spawn
iv) Farm Spawn
Chapter 3 – Administration
i) autosave/autoreset time (inc Server Wars)
ii) autoaccounts
iii) test centre
Chapter 4 – UO:R Customisations
i) Disabling AoS and SE
ii) Disabling Backpack menu
iii) Adding Damage Display
iv) Animal Limit
v) Recalling, Gating and Marking in Dungeons
vi) Bounty System
vii) Shard Unique Tidbits (Teleporters, 999 Stock Regs etc)
viii) Loot (Adding Moonstones, Removing Powerscrolls and Necro Regs etc)
Chapter 5 – Where we need your help
i) UO:R Combat (Vanq, Armour values etc not working)
ii) UO:R Spellcasting (Any issues?)
iii) UO:R Gumps (Blacksmithy etc)
iv) Talking NPCs
v) Skill issues (Bard Skills – Peacemaking, Provocation, Discordance etc)
vi) Power Hour
vii) Creature AI
viii) Anything else I’ve missed or of interest
ix) Limitations (You can’t change quests->journal or guild->chat)

btw if anyone has any answers to Chapter 5 now, I'll update it right away and give you credit

Post it under the FAQ forum either as an attachment or do it by chapters in each post.

one thing to keep in mind, in UOR the spell system was in .25 of a sec ticks and everything was defined by how many ticks an action took, in AOS that mechanisim was removed as ticks but measured in .25 sec increments.

i know it doesnt sound like much, but it will be noticeable if you use the AOS method rather than the original method by anyone who played UOR. even nowadays with AOS servers i can still tell the difference in the way spells work.

I am VERY new to all this and this sounds like exactly what I have been looking for. Did you ever complete the guide? If so, where can I find it?

The formula was .5s * circle, with a between-spell delay of either .75s or 1s.

You shouldn't really need a guide. RunUO pre-AoS stock formulas are very accurate to the Pub 16 era, except for one little problem I discovered with BaseShield. From that point, it's just tedious accuracy tweaks.
