Default Slandering other servers.

To whom it may concern,

I am curious if this is against RunUO's terms of use. Do you feel that blatantly lieing about another server to ruin it's chances of any success from the start hoping that your false words will change the players hearts from changing should be illegal?

These people have used false accusations against the victims name. Publicly accusing the victim of 'Donation Fraud' with no proof. Taking the victims new server name (that he spent hard earned money on get a dedicated server set up) and telling everyone that this server is just to steal your account names and passwords.

I know the victim personally. I also have spent alot of time around the People. I know fact that the victim isn't enough of a prick to follow through on any of these accusations. Nor do I think he has the abillity.

Hopefully I here soon a reply with the answers that I seek.

Regards,
Solipsist

I seriously doubt that anyone from the RunUO dev team wants to get into the business of being the "freeshard police force" or babysit shard owners who can't play nice together.

Beyond providing the software to run a player run shard, and hosting their own official RunUO sponsored shards (UOGamers) The administration of RunUO doesn't really give a shit about your petty little squabbles. Pull up your big girl panties and get over it.

Your friend made a bad, unethical move in trying to pull players from another shard onto his by advertising on said shard.

Prepare for the repercussions of this horrible decision.

If you mentioned your shard to ANYONE on another shard it's advertising. Hence you did advertise. Doesn't matter if it was a GM, the Owner of the Shard or his G/F who saw you say something or if they where hidden or not. If they where in the area then they must have suspected something was up and you proved them correct.

I don't think this has anything at all to do with RunUO.

If you add the 2 beginning letters of retard and place them directly in the middle of the word anoxia it becomes anorexia.

Coincidence?

....or something more sinister?

We have little to no control over who uses our software and what they choose to do with it.

I, personally, am using it to research (copy) how a server and client interacts and transfer these ideas (paste) into my own current projects. Not really. (Is he joking?)

lol @ "something more sinister?"

So theoretically we could use this software for evil pursuits like extracting information from the user such as their nationality and email address, then simply pull there password out and see if it works?, studies show around 25% of people use the same password and user name for many things, eg me

We couldn't stop you, but the FBI could.

Microsoft can't stop you from using Windows to spread trojans.

Mozilla can't stop you from using Firefox to look at child pornography.

Software is a tool. It is up to you how you use it.

Software cant be blamed for the actions of its end users anymore than a gun manufacterer can be blamed for the criminals who use them. Personal responsibility has to come in somewhere.

As for passwords, I don't want to say its people like yours fault, however when you have the same passwords for shit, its an open invitation for disreputable people to try said password on other things, and while not technically your fault, you are enabling them to do such things. If you are logging into something whose owner you don't know (and therefore don't trust), its a very safe game to assume that they aren't encrypting your password (even if its only a 0.00001% chance that they actually are) and are going to use it for misuse. Always assume the worst in people on the internet, its the only way to be 100% safe.

Also a fact. On a RUNUO server you can see accounts with admin status yes, but not the passwords so the admins of defiance need to do some research on their lies befor attempting to lie.

Not entirely true

You can enable plain text passwords, at least on 1.0, not sure about 2.0

The accounthandler.cs file has the option to turn off secure passwords.

public static bool ProtectPasswords = true;

It would not be hard for anyone who had a clue what they are doing to modify the account creation on RunUO, it is completley open source.

accessing someones personal account without their consent is illegal, even if you know their password.
