Please see a screenshot from Rhexis's shard.
http://areteweyrs.eviath.com/copperm...atheia-002.png How can I build into the mountain like that, so that it's underneath the ground and in to black? I've tried altering the Z levels with WorldMaker but it only drops the ground... Hmmm. |

Try using UO CentrED
It has "Virtual layer" (hotkey F8) function and it works like a charm when used with "Boundaries" (hotkey F7). You set the visible boundaries underneath the mountain height, so it's not visible, then enable virtual layer at, say, -15z and draw your halls or caves. Just make sure that your mountain is high enough and walls you build inside it are sticking out the mountain. |

That cave looks sweet.
I'm trying to build a basement-type thing but I don't know what I'm doing. First screenshot shows 2 levels: -40z and -20z, but then I can't walk up the stairs to 0z because the ground is blocking. Second screenshot shows main ground level set at -40z, but then the map blocks a lot of the levels and it looks kinda crappy. I wonder if there is an easier way of doing this? I couldn't get that program working for me ![]() |

It was connecting to the RUNUO server but it flunked out after awhile of connecting. I was looking forward to using it too, you can have multiple builders on one map? That sounds nice. Although they don't have UOAR support they are supposed to be adding it. That would make it a complete solution right there for building IMHO.
But I figured out the solution to the underground problem. I should have been using NoDraw tiles instead of the plain black tiles I was using. You don't have to set the Z when using NoDraw tiles, I think they are infinite -/+Z (at least to the maps limits). They are also invisible if there's something behind them to show instead of the tile itself. I never knew about these tiles till now, I've been trying to figure this out since yesterday lol. Now I can easily build basements, sewers underneath cities, etc... Very cool. Basically similar to the building right next to Britain bank, where the thief guildmaster is located I believe. I think building underground is a better solution if you want to build something really large but don't want it to take up a ton of screen space (like a 3-4 story +Z home) to where it blocks view of other things on the map. Here's screenshots.. Last edited by Arkad; 05-21-2008 at 06:03 AM. |

You should be connecting from CenterED client to CenterEd server, not RunUO. And the CenterED server should be there where your mul files are (or create a separate copy of your muls and place server's .exe there).
Here's an example of cedserver.ini (the file that defines CenteED config, should be placed at the same folder with cedserver.exe): Code:
[Config] Version=2 [Network] Port=2597 [Paths] map=D:\Games\UOml\map0.mul statics=D:\Games\UOml\statics0.mul staidx=D:\Games\UOml\staidx0.mul tiledata=D:\Games\UOml\tiledata.mul radarcol=D:\Games\UOml\radarcol.mul [Parameters] Width=768 Height=512 [Accounts] alrick=255:b25892cf26f2b6af2fa9ad473ccf25:357 And here's what I've managed to do with CenterED (took about 15 minutes): Farmer's house (undecorated yet): Basement: Last edited by Alrick; 05-21-2008 at 06:59 AM. |

Nice, I got Centred to work thanks to your advice. On top of having to put the server in my main UO directory I also had to change the map size to 896 width.
Now I will play with it a little - program looks great and really userfriendly. Thanks for your all your help. Do you have a shard by chance? I'd like to check out some of your work. edit: I've been playing with the virtual layer F8 tool but I'm not finding that it really does anything? I press it , click show layer at Z, then type -20 or -40 but it doesn't do anything I don't think? I can see all the layers by unchecking "show terrain" at the top, however. edit edit: Oh, I found out what it does. It sets the grid at whatever Z level you want. My shard is kind of "Work in progress", been writing theoretical stuff to a wiki for several weeks and drawing my map all that time. Considering the amount of features I plan to implement, it's still far from grand opening.
CenterED: use the "Boundaries" function and set the upper limit to, like, -1z so it hides all what's above it: |
