I can't believe how far the player run server community and interest has continued since I was last involved about 8 years ago. Back then it took hours of setup and configuration just to get a basic UO server running. I remember when RunUO was first introduced to the community. I was using Sphere at the time for a small player run server. Last evening I downloaded, installed RunUO and Nerun's Distro and in a matter a minutes I logged into my new server. I am very impressed with the results and how dedicated everyone has been. It used to take so much time and effort to get your server spawned and keep the server running! Now with a working server, I don't know what to do with myself now, it used to be such a challenge!

I think one thing that really helped was that the RUO team really put thought into the obstacles people ran into when trying to set up and run a server, and went into the project with specific goals and a good road map. I remember that one of their first goals was that the server should be able to be download and run without any user modifications needed.
I noticed also that they took some of the best ideas of ways other emulators were doing things, came up with a ton of improvements on their own, and incorporated all that knowledge into RUO. Best of all, instead of using a custom scripting language like other emulators did, RUO used a real programming language - which was not only a lot more powerful, but it allowed us to actually be able to learn a programming language as part of running the server. Learning custom scripting languages meant learning something I could never use anywhere else, while learning C# has meant learning something I could use to build my own programs. RUO was also really progressive in that they (unlike POL and Sphere) released their source. Best emulator EVER! ![]() |

RunUO.... I've heard of that somewhere...
![]() Seriously, I am pleased that you are pleased. I am by no means part of the Dev team, but on their behalf I'll give a hearty thank you for the comments.

I'm pretty sure there is a lot of the ML stuff that still needs to be done. The devs have said they aren't really all that interested in ML so they have asked for the user base to step up and help out. Nothing has really made it into the SVN tho.

I gotta agree as well I used to run a POL server years ago then started using RunUO when it first came out. I just started a new server recently after not playing for a couple of years and I'm impressed how quick it was to get back to where I was. Great work RunUO team & to all those excellent script writers!
