Default Why can't I reply in the FAQ forum?

I get the following error when I try to reply to someone's post in the FAQ forum. The thread is not locked, and it needs to receive a reply...

FAQ Forum: A place to find answers to the most frequently asked questions, and a place to post said answers. Do NOT use this forum to ask questions.
If someone posted in the FAQ forum, they shouldn't need a reply. So, you could always PM the person.

People shouldnt be asking questions in the FAQ forum in the first places. Its a forum for guides or tips on how to do things.

He never said there was a question.
Guides/tips/FAQs can be wrong, or benefit from more information.

Well someone posted a question in there earlier today, so I was assuming this post was in regards to that. If thats not the case then PMing them (Like icemallet said) would be the best option.

Thank you all for the informative opinions.

I was, however, looking for a more "official" answer, to benefit anyone who might have the same question. While I agree that PM'ing someone is a valid alternative, it would kind of be nice to know why my privileges were lowered in that particular instance.

Thanks.

No one can reply in FAQ forums because they are for guides, not questions and replies. The assumption is that people will only post How-to's or FAQ's and dont need replies. If you need replies to questions, advice, etc then you should use script support, general discussion, etc.

Doesn't get more official than this: FAQ Rules - Read before posting

I can really understand your position tho, if there are errors in a FAQ and the original author is not around to fix it, it would be nice for others to correct that persons incorrect information for others, however, if they allowed replies there would be a flood (with this forum, of Noah's Ark proportions) of replies of people asking questions about each particular FAQ. In the event that a person does not respond to a PM, and the information is definitely wrong or outdated, consider consulting a moderator to edit the updated information in. Hint, you can usually catch them easier on IRC than via PM.
