Listen, over the past couple weeks I've become a bit more active on these forums, and I come to find that there is a serious attitude problem. Especially out side of starbucks, people are flaming, being rude, and all around being complete jackasses to everyone else here. If you decide to make a post, you need to start thinking twice because this crap will not be tolerated any longer. If someone posts a question that you know the answer to, tell them without attitude. If someone posts a question thats been answered a few hundred times, dont tell them to use the search, either link them to a post regarding the same issue/question or dont post anything at all. We are all guity of this(myself included) but it needs to stop.
Consider this post your first and only warning.

I have noticed a few what seems personal flare ups between a couple of users in the script release forum. But i haven't been back long enough to really see any of what's being mentioned.
![]() ![]() But will take the advice. Thanks for a heads up to all of the community |

I think, contrary to serving the purpose of letting users let off steam, the "flaming allowed" aspect of Starbucks... or for that matter, virtually any forum with similar boards... is counterproductive to a healthy community.
"No flaming allowed on this website, ever: if you can't say it without being deliberately insulting, do not say it at all" should most likely be the rule, in my opinion, even for the owner/operator/admins of the site (if they care about the health of community participation). Just my opinion (and yah: I've said it before). :-) C// p.s. and no, I don't mean nanny like exclusions prohibiting profanity and the like, just really simply: don't make your conversations with others personal attacks. |

While I don't always read Starbucks I also see a lot of people disrespecting others on the Script Realease section and while critisim of scripts is ok it shouldn't be taken to a personal level as I've seen in the past few days, and while as I said constuctive critisism of scripts is fine there is no place in calling ppl names or saying what they have to offer is no good. I who normally doesn't climb on a soap box and speak up just could not stand by and see someone else disrespected here so I stated my mind on that I've not seen anyone else say a word + or - since then. guess what I am trying to say is for the love of this forum and the game many of us (including me) write scripts for, We all have feelings Remember that when you post a positive or negative comment. a few of us aren't as gifted as others and we too are proud of our work no matter how we achieved it.

Jeff,
I've been here for Years (since 2004), witnessed the Phantom days and all and I must say, between Ryan,Ziggy,Mark,David and you, this forum will stay professional. I agree with you 100%, seen the new comers after they've been here awhile get attitude like they own the place. I personally know of many old members that still visit the forums but never post due to the problem you listed above. If we can see a cleaner forum with more respecting members, maybe some of us older members will start contributing again but until I see a change personaly, I can't see wasting my time to contribute. Just remember a little respect goes along way, a helping hand does help and a slap in the face still stings!

thank you. You stated it more elequently than I did. It does boil down to respect or the lack there of, Sometimes I honestly wonder if this Generation was evertaught about respect
my mom taught me "you attract more flies with ssugar than viniga" wich is a poliite way to say if you give respect you get respect.

That and someone could not intend to be being mean, and the person not know that. I've seen lots of cases where a new users first post in starbucks gets jokingly flamed or ragged on and they take it seriously, and then think that the whole forum is like that.

i used to think you were one of the biggest jerks here cause of a couple of joke threads that got started...i can't remember who all was in it but.... i had already been here for a really long time though and knew alot of the older members and figured you were all kinda friends though....cause it was always the same people. but that is an example....if i hadn't known any better, i would have thought the whole board was like that. and btw....i don't think your a jerk anymore just for the record ![]() |

HAAHA sry this all to funny
i post any where in this forums i get flammed i dought there will be much of a turn around. Even when i was a new member before my rep and everything people flammed me for asking questions in support because i couldnt spell to well. Jeff i dont know what has caused you to see the problems here but maybe you can stop them. Jeff here is a example of a flame post BoyA posts maybe he posted his question in starbucks BOyB comes along and flames him for a misspelled word or asking in starbucks then BoyA comes back defends him self BoyB comes back and it gets out of hand Now mod gets pmed who knows for what and because its Starbucks and its post to be Unmod So mod reads post Boy A then gets either banned or Yelled and disrespected by mod. So mod is not even caring that BOyB has started the fight and boyA was just a victim That is the biggest problem here is mods will take the sides of old users just cause the are friends instead of really seeing what went on to maybe stop it. But long run BoyB will do the same thing to they next new person that joins because he knows he got away with it. So Where is the law in all this because every one seems to think the are above it. I dont know if you all know this by now but some one can sue ryan and runuo for slander because he is in USA. I dont think that would happen but it can very much happen. |

if you wanted to, one could sue an individual for slanderous remarks but a case like that over the net would cost more than it was worth. But the rest of your post Draegen, i don't think is entirely true....granted i have seen occasions alot like you have described, but when i have witnessed it, it usually ended up in the thread being locked. I have hardly seen someone get banned over one instance of this. when i have seen someone get banned, it is usually after repeated offense after repeated offense. usually they have had multiple threads locked, pm's to warn them, and so on and finally that was a last resort. If you have been victim of this setup though, i am sorry. But i think it was a fluke and it isn't a regular occurence like you describe it. I have been here since 2003 and i think the mods and ryan are some of the nicest people i have seen online. I haven't really talked to them 1-on-1 too much unless it was something i did (one time i had too big a signiature...i can't remember which mod it was that pm'ed me about it) but they are a nice group of people. I know you have been here a bit too by your date, but by your post i dunno how often you really check stuff. but we're not all bad honestly...i would like to think i am for the most part decent on here (i think we are all guilty at some point and time of flamming...intentional and otherwise) and it is a large group. give it a chance and see if it will turn around |

I agree with you jeff you have not banned to many people that didnt deserv to be banned
maybe makinga rule aginst joking with new people untell the been hear a while might help some Pyro-Tech I understand its freedom of speech but how many times have we all seen people on the news getting sued or putting some one behind bars because of freedom of speech was acted against. I work at wal mart In Fl where i used to work at a wal mart there we could not say mery xmas to people because the could sue us. i asked my store mnger why he said we have been sued for saying it to customers. so where is the freedom of speech act in that. as a wal mart worker i can only say somethings to people before i lose my job or get sued. But there is some truth to this i think you might have to look it up on google tho |

But the difference there is that being an employee you are representing the company. In a public forum (any such as a message board, mailing list, or anything of that nature) the people posting are solely responsible. One correction I will make just thinking about it though due to the walmart thing, is that if you are a representative of the company, business, site, ect. ect. then yes, you could get the company or site or whatever in trouble. For example a wal-mart employee using slander against a customer could get walmart sued or charges pressed against them....a customer doing the same thing to a customer couldn't A user on here slandering another user couldn't get anything done about it to RunUO directly....however, a mod could get RunUO or Ryan into trouble because a mod is a representative of the site. the act in the end applies to an individual not an entity....and during the time that you are representing that entity, then you no longer have that right per se....and on top of that even you can be threatening or false or you can press a slander case....if you "state your opinion" then you can get away with alot. Calling a cop a pig can get you arrested, saying that your opinion of them is that they are a pig can prolly get it out your mouth without being arrested....though im sure a cop in this case would find something else to arrest you for lol ![]() In all honesty, it is something that could get dragged out forever if ever brought into a court room. For me, it is one website out of hundreds of thousands and i can always find another site to go and post on if i want starbucks type open forum.....it isn't worth my time to sit around and be nagged....but i haven't ever had to deal with that personally and prolly why i have a very different view of the community. and your right....it prolly would take looking it up on some website from google to find out alot of intricies. and the christmas thing with walmart i think is stupid to begin with....why do people take things at the litteral level instead of just simply that they are trying to spread the joy and cheer of the season....my (newly married) wife works as a cashier at our local walmart and some of the stuff she told me they drilled her on when she had first gotten hired there a few years ago is ridiculous! People just need to get the proverbial stick out of their collective ass and quit taking everything so personally...the world (and maybe this applies to the situation here a bit) would be a much better place. But anyways, i don't want to comment on this too much more....i think that half the post was borderline hi-jack and the other half i think i touched on the matter...that's as close as i want to get lol |
