Default Mobile copy of Ultima install?

I am asking this cause i have a few friends that log on at a local computer cafe and they have do download all of the data and set it up to play on my server.

They have gotten smart and bought 8 gig memory sticks to carry around a copy of the install along with CUO and razor (one of them pandora) but they were wondering if they were to actually install everything onto the stick if they could then stick it into a computer and then just run it as is or at the very least copy and paste the install directory from the stick over to the computer's hard drive afterward.

the problem they are having is that at the end of the night when the place closes, they have a program like deepfreeze on the computer to keep people from installing bad stuff....so they reset every night.

thanks for any advice and information

They should've bought 2gig or even 1gig ones and save money :-\.
I'd recommend a U3 smart drive.

I could work though with a normal memory stick. If its plugged into usb 2.0 ports there shouldn't be much of a lag issue from running it off the memory stick.
If it doesn't because of a reg key issue they could just bundle up the keys and put them on their drive and just add them each time, it'd take barely a second.

so would the idea work?

i think they did it mainly for the sake of having it for things other than just a UO client

It would work for most apps. As said above, some apps and games mights encounter some registry key issues. From my experience games never did.

The UO client sets some registry values that would need to be set before you run it, or you will get a message about it not being installed properly. As I recall, those values are under HKLM/Software/Origin Worlds Online/Ultima Online/1.0/

I would suggest maybe writing a script/C# console program on the USB drive that detects what drive it is mounted as, and produces a .reg file with the appropriate values, and calls ShellExecute on it. You would need the part that detects what the USB drive is mounted as so you can point the registry values to the installation of UO that is on the drive itself.

it depends on what the registry value's are needing...

like he said i know some things will run without a proper install....sometime's theres errors with other programs that interact with it (say a CD check if there was one) and for example connect UO wouldn't know where to find razor or UO...but you can manually enter that in the options.

So im thinking it may work....we'll see

And you can run it on limited user host computers you need to download an extra onto the host pc inorder to do so though, which is no prob for me because although my work pc has limited use, we are provided internet access so it is still feesable.

You need admin rights to install the program that allows users with non-administrative rights.

It's nice, but it's pretty much useless at the places it could be a lifesaver (internet cafes, schools, etc.).
