i have iris 2 downloaded....and at least it works now....

it is fun to mess with, but i wouldn't be a staffer on it....awkward to use the aiming commands with it

as a player, and exploring the game, it is interesting to see the world in 3d....one problem i had personally, is that since you can turn the view around (where north isn't up and right) i didn't know where i was in brit. It is funny how well i know where things are normally, but once you change the direction, i had no idea where i was lol

but it is worth a try....some people will like it...some won't....i won't give up my 2d client 100% though

when I first got it up and running on my server I had no idea where i was, and when your used to the 2D controls its easy to get mixed up.

Rockstar did you read through the install instructions InstallationManual - Iris
Might just be something simple that you missed??

Tried it, Loved it. Great improvement over 1.0

It's got a lot of potential, playing UO from a first person perspective is fun, and certainly very different.

What UO client features are not yet functional in Iris?

Also, does anyone know if there are any limits for custom art, animations, skills, etc? The normal UO client has ceilings for all of those, but will Iris ignore those limits and read them if they are present in the MUL files?

i know iris throws a fit on some items when they are laying out on the ground...one example is the arcane gems used for spawns

It'll be good if they make it look like Diablo 3 style graphics.

@Tomahawk: It will be good, you make this graphics for Iris. Lol. Please think before you write!

@HellRazor: Iris2 loads all. And if not, you can easily edit the LUA scripts to load all.

What SiENcE quoted: It will be good, you make this graphics for Iris.

He isn't using a translator. He is, however, German, and his interpretation of what you said and his sentence structure echo very strongly his familiarity with the German language. Cut him some slack

Thanks Sience. It's been awhile since the last time I tried Iris, maybe it is time for me to load up the newest version and see how far it has come!

Is there still a 2D mode for Iris?

It's looking good i think, will be better once all the 2D items are finished with 3D items tho... like the moongate effect too, just the 2D gate kind of looked odd with the particle effects coming from it but since it's still being developed thats expected.

Is there any way to make our own vidoe clips of us running around in it, maybe show others how far developed it is ?

@Tomahawk: Hey, don't take my sarcasm too seriously. I hear this very often and we try to get skilled 3d artists for about 5 years now. We gave up to get a real one.

@HellRazor: We developed a new 2d Mode (faster) but this isn't playable yet. You can try to start Iris with parameter "iris2.exe -2d".

@FingersMcSteal: Take Fraps. I recorded our Trailers with it.

You can find the newest Trailer here:

I think the Graphics are Brilliant. We all have to remember that this is a conversion of a 10 year old game.

EA/Mythic have a qualified team of designers and developers, and their effort is both Less functional and perhaps not as good looking as the IRIS 2.0 team's effort

Good video so far.

all my Iris2 videos:
http://au.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=Sience2001

My way to create a good looking video is:

-record with FRAPS show fps, record video game movies, screen capture software
-loseless edit with Sony Creative Software - Vegas Pro, Vegas Movie Studio, and Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Edition
-produce a noncompresse RAW avi
-convert with Welcome to virtualdub.org! - virtualdub.org and XVID ( Koepi's Media Development Homepage ) to a compressed xvid .avi

Here is the error I get when I try to run the Iris 2 Client:

Code:
MainWorkingDir  ..//
lugreluapath    ..//lugre/lua/
..//data/config.lua:2: '<name>' expected near '\'
..\lugre\src\lugre_main.cpp:182:Lugre::Lugre_Run
 ..\lugre\src\lugre_game.cpp:19:Lugre::cGame::Run
  ..\lugre\src\lugre_scripting.cpp:368:Lugre::cScripting::Init
PrintLuaStackTrace:
LuaStackTrace:

ERROR : error in main script-initialisation

If this error remains after running the updater and you think this is a bug
please check the BugTracker at www.iris2.de
and report it if it is not already known.
Please also append the logfile in bin/stacktrace.log to your bugreport.
I really want to try Iris 2 it looks really good. Just need to get passed the problems running it.

Ah ok, a common mistake.

this line tells you where to look for the error:
Quote:
..//data/config.lua:2: '<name>' expected near '\'
Line 2 is the problem.

I think you used an invalid path.

Please read our FAQ - Iris

Example:
correct:
Code:
gUOPath = "C:\\Programs\\Ultima Online\\"
Code:
gUOPath = "C:/Programs/Ultima Online/"
incorrect:
Code:
gUOPath = "C:\Programs\Ultima Online\"
i hope this fixes your problem.
Please ask for help in our Forum. thx

I would say I am a supporter but it does have a long ways to go before I would consider it worthwhile to use regularly. Plenty of missing artwork when I last tried it and uo was also built for 2d so some of the stuff does not look quite right.

I think what this really needs once it is actually complete is a world build to go along with it so that things appear correctly in both the 2d client and this one.

@Midnightdragon: I fully agree with you. But who wants todo it, who has that much time, skill and effort ?

Midnightdragon is a really hardcore fan of the 2d client. So he's gonna stick up for it no matter what comes out next lol.

I still cannot wait to try this out though. Still trying to fix the errors and stuff. But right now I'm feeling sick and I need to lay down. I think I've come down with something so I'll continue this another time .

Personally I would be happy for a fully functional non-OSI 2D client.
