I want to run a small uo game for my home network of 5 computers and one from across town.
I have several questions; the first is how do I get started after I download RunUO-Beta-36.zip. Do I need to put it in my AOS dir. if I could get a step buy step it would be nice, for me and any one else who is new. I have windows XP Pro, will that work or will I need to get something better? And do I need to configure it a certain way? Do I need a dedicated server to do this? I have a 1.3GH machine with 256ram. |

Your not going to be able to support very many players on your current computer, because you have no ram. You can run RunUO in any folder you so wish. The FAQ forum can answer most of your questions, I suggest taking a look. |

The computer should be fine for 5 or 6 people. However, to the dedicated server question... the UO client is a resource hog. If you run it on the same machine as RunUO it will cause lag for everyone else.
Normally I just extract RunUO to the root of the C: drive and be sure to allow it to create the directories it needs. XP Pro is a fine Operating System for a small server, make sure you have the .NET framework from Microsoft installed. If not, go to WindowsUpdate.Microsoft.com to get it. As Phantom said, take a look in the FAQ forum and at the Sticky posts in Server Support. finally, Welcome to RunUO!
