I have a PIII 500 with 256 Meg. of ram and RunUO use all of it with only felucca setup and like 10 account for testing. I can play with 2 3 friend whit no lag. but remember that I have almost no item since its only for testing.

So my gess is you don't have enought Mem. The CPU will be ok if you plan on having only friend and family. (and you are not playing localy, on the same PC as the shard)

Forget any serious public shard on this PC.

You shouldn't run a shard on anything less than 1GB ram and 1-1.5Ghz, if you want to have one facet fully spawned and decorated, and more than 10 active accounts. Otherwise your players will be in for a very rough time.

I have been using an old hp pavilion with a 566mhz celeron processor and 192mb ram and dial up i can tell you this i have tons of items almost no spawn and all maps tram ilsh fel and malas now with 2 or 3 dungeons spawned and one person playing on my shard with me when i run uo and my shard server from this computer we can continue to play for 30 minutes max befor i lose connection due to a lack of recources and memory. when playing offline building on my shard it is lag free but building is a slow process. About 60 second load and save times and it is hell. Now tomorow im moving onto my new comp it has a 2.7ghz celeron 512 ddr sd ram and i will be in much better shape i will still need to upgrade to 1gb ram soon though. That should give you some idea just how much it requires of a computer to run a shard on it.

No

Your computer could not handle much of anything, you don't have enough ram.

You may not want to run a server with less than a GB of ram, but it can easily be done. Ram isn't really all that "generic". If you have good new ram that is high speed etc then you can host a fairly big server with only about 512. Of course if your computer is like a p2 then your ram sucks big time obviously and you would probably need a gig of SD Ram.

This isn't true.

You need more then a gig if you want to host a shard of any size. Its just a simple fact, if you have low resources you will run out very quickly.

Your OS needs a good amount, so with 512 your only talking about a avg percent of that memory RunUO could use before running into problems.

Maybe if you have your server up for a month straight you might, but I would say windows takes up about 150mb of ram depending on your ram. With a full spawned world and at least 10 people on i've never seen RunUO take up more than 150mb. Most of the time it only stay at about 60 when nothing is going on. Now if you have 50 clients on then you may run out of Ram, but most people don't get more than 30 max before they just stop hosting a server and give up.
