Talking Considering RunUo

For about five years now I have played on POL servers and I am very used to the emulator. I like it, it seems to work well on roleplaying servers and is fairly flexible (i've seen many people do some amazing things with it in terms of scripts).

I recently started my own POL server, and as a person with zero knowledge of scripting I found it very difficult to try and learn it, the scripts were confusing and the people on their forums offered little help. It was really sad how little people were willing to share with me, no one would explain how they did certain things on their server and there very few offered scripts for free that I could download and add to my server and even those ones were broken or complete garbage.

I've heard a few people talking about RunUO saying that it is an excellent alternative to POL and is very good and flexible for roleplaying etc. I'd also like to mention I know some visual basic, perhapes this could help me with this language.

So, I'm asking, would RunUO be easier to learn, and are there more free scripts given away to help me get started? And finally how different is it from POL, like the actual game.

Thanks guys, I look forward to being a part of this community.

You can get a pretty good idea about the number of scripts shared just by a casual browse through the Code Modifications section here on the forum. Having never used POL, I can't help you compare it to RunUO, though I'm sure you'll find a multitude of people here to tell you RunUO is better.

And also you can code in VB.net, so that may help you some too.

I've recently converted to RunUO from POL as well. POL just has too many restrictions to bother creating a shard on it.... :P

As for learning to script...RunUO is a touch more difficult in that you must go in depth with the C# language...but the power of C# versus that of Escript....is just incredible.

The RunUO Community is far more supporting and open, and help is always just a post or two away. So if you are thinking of converting to RunUO, i'd recommend it. There are various C# tutorials on the net....one that really helped me was....

C # Tutorial

Anyways I hope that helps, and good luck with RunUO.

"inteligent" is misspelled. (intelligent)

like you show signs of intelligence when you spell it wrong. Plus out of 40k+ community thats a bold statement to make.

Never assume anything, makes you look "unintelligent".

Hlal... He was talking about the VB scripts which we have proof no one uses unless soemone comes out and says I USE THEM. Everyone just asks about them and if they want scripts they say, hmmm How do I do this here is what I have.

Code:
Make my house blue
works

Secondly, anyone who nitpicks about spelling... Well, that generally means they have no REAL argument to state...

Anyways I will make the god damn bold statment, anytime I think I am right, I have till this date not be proven wrong that much when I make those god damn bold statments.

So if you think I am wrong, put your god damn money where you mouth is, instead of putting your god damn foot in your mouth.

I am trying to get this post locked, so I don't have to read this idiots reply to me.

Wow why you so mad? DO not let anyone get to you so much.

On another note:

I just feel sorry for the orginal poster, he did not ask anything about VB.NET but then I guess these post and replies do sorta tell him what he wanted to know, i guess

I have removed my posts, please adjust your posts to reflect this.

Clearly people don't want me to express some advice about VB.NET and the total lack of community support.

So I will keep my advice to myself.
