Default Let's get some organization

OK I'm brand new to RunUO and it's been years since I hosted a shard, (I hosted a very successful one on Sphere). I've been looking through many forum posts and Im getting very little actual information. The documentation page is empty, the forums are hidden under the link "community" on the front page, and some other key things are missing. I think there needs to be a post somewhere stickied that has all the links to the things someone starting a shard will need. Here's what I'm looking for. I'll try to keep it short.

1. Documentation on the GM commands in the game. I can't find this anywhere and that's just silly. How am I supposed to know what commands to type in if I'm to run a server.

2. Documentation of some sort on the basic function of scripts. People need to know how your scripts work, with some examples.

3. A GM program that assists in running a shard. I looked and looked and all I could find was Pandora's box, and the site for it is down. So I looked some more and found an obscure link to a version of it. It doesn't even work for me.

4. A simple, short explanation on how to create a shard. A paragraph is all it takes to save people starting a new shard a lot of time.

Someone please help me on this and help other new shard admins who are having the same trouble I am. Thank you.

documentations for commands is inside the install folder

documentations for scripting is called learn c# basics, this isnt some proprietary coding language

pandoras box is a great tool and several mirrors are up while the main site is down

ryan has a sticky on how to put up a shard, as does uog

Ok well I cannot get Pandora's box to work at all. The program runs but it does not do anything on my server. Can I get any help here?

As far a simple explanation, all I meant was how to get started with it (ie a walkthrough of how to extract it, run it, etc.)

And the documentation being in the files should really be mentioned in the same place you're downloading the server and in the "documentation" section because I had no idea about this until it was said on this post.

if you dont know how to extract a zip file or launch an executable then you dont need to be running a server

runuo is so cut and dry you would have to be completely brain dead to not understand how it works

1) Well if you patched to the most current version of UO then they changed how the "[" works. You will need to change the command key in Handlers.cs and then change it on Pandora's.

2) There are several walk-thru's on how to setup a shard on these forums... The very first stickie in Server Support is THE RUNUO HOW TO IN LAMERS (err.. LAMENS) TERMS... Check it out.

3) As for the docs I partly agree with you on that one but the generated ones change so whats the point. Alot of us have highly modified shards..

4) Welcome to RunUO! Hope you enjoy it. DOnt be afraid to ask questions but make sure not to be rude to the people offering advice. And never post requests for scripts, post what you've tried and what your goal is then people here are more then happy to jump onboard and help you out. =)-

Do you understand that when you install something like a server, not everyone goes looking into every folder in the installation to learn how it works? Especially if there's a section called "documentation" on the website you got it from that says "coming soon", misleading you into thinking no documentation is currently ready yet. It's a very simple concept, Phantom. Im asking to make things more clear, not who's to blame.

As for Pandora's box, the program acts like Im not even running the game. It won't input commands of any sort into the client. I have my commands run as "]" in both the server's files and in Pandoras. It just doesn't work. I just checked the log in PB and here's the error Im getting:

You could try running Pandora's without the "Box" server. I don't use the Box server and it will still allow commands to run through it to the game. If you're set on running the actual server, I can't be much help.

Ravatar's and Phantom's posts have been removed. Phantom's for being repetitive, and Ravatar's for trying to be a moderator.

Pretty much all this stuff is addressed in the Learn UO section. Hopefully people will make use of it!
