Final List of Major Questions

Ok, I know I've been a major bug, but searching these forums yields very little "real" newbie answers. Perhaps the things I'm asking are way too easy to even put a solution to, but I feel is necessary to ask regardless! Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me, as I feel this will be the last time.

1. I finally got the game going on my PC. Now I notice there is no spawn! I downloaded XMLSpawner (as user friendly as a robot set on "kill") and followed up with SpawnEditor2. I did everything it said to do the installation for both, as I know SE2 requires XMLSpawner to function. I get this error when trying to run SE2:

I have the paths set to the right locations, etc.

2. Assuming the spawn thing isn't too much more difficult to figure out, I am also curious to how you add other user accounts to your shard? And how would I create more admins?

3. Along the same lines as 2, how do I rename the shard to something cool like "Shard of Sorrow" or "Monkey Fun"??

4. When everything else is figured out, how do I simply connect to my friend's server if he gets me set up account-wise (or if I get him set up on mine)? Is that done through Razor?

Thanks again for all the help everybody...I wish this stuff was a little bit more WYSIWYG, but I really don't get scripting too much yet. From what I see SpawnEditor 2 is pretty user-friendly, but I just need to get the darn thing working! Thank you x 100 for reading this!

1. hmm that boggles me im not sure ... i havent tried that system/script

2. from in game you can use [admin then click accounts and just type a username and password then click add then you can manually set the access level
3. in serverlist.cs look for

public const string ServerName = "blah blah blah";

4. you can connect several different ways ill give you 3 examples
www.uogateway.com (uogateway client)

manually change the login.cfg to his IP and port as well as decrypt the client you intend to use

and razor works also

Ok, you pretty much helped me A GREAT deal. I edited the name of the server, created accounts, and haven't tried 4 yet because all of my friends are sleeping. Do I just open Razor and put in the "ip" of the person I want to join? Is there anything else I should know? About the most difficult thing I know how to do in scripting is "replacing" certain parts.

You may also want to consider Nerun's Distro for a spawn package. It's probably just as easy to install, but it also contains a few pre-configured spawn maps that will help spawn your world (in case you don't want to go through the trouble of doing it yourself).... I'm not sure if XML Spawner has that ability by default (I haven't used it yet personally), though it has the ability to import Nerun's spawn maps. But, other than that, XML Spawner itself is probably one of the most full featured spawners available.

If you are running a RunUO 2.0 server, you need to use the RunUO 2.0 version of the Spawn Editor.
That error results from trying to use the RunUO 1.0 compatible version of Spawn Editor with a 2.0 RunUO server.

When connecting to yourself you can use the loopback ip 127.0.0.1 which will pretty much always connect you to yourself..internet connection or not (ie you can play on your own runuo server even when your internet is down).

If you want others to connect to you, you'll need to give them your public ip. Which can usually be found via ipconfig or if that rings no bells go to www.whatismyip.com

Theres potential issues if you're behind firewalls/router..but theres all sorts of faq/guides to work around that and you can find them easily by searching. If you do need help though, just ask.

I've been gone for a day or so, but thank you everybody. THIS is why I love these forums, everybody is so helpful!! I appreciate the assistance...hopefully sooner or later i'll have a decent server going.
