Last night, I followed the "RunUO Ultimate Little Guide" and was able to get my server online. When it finished compiling the codes, it supplied 3 IP addresses. My 127.0.0.1 for personal server, a 192.168.1.100 that seems to be like my Linksys router, and then one with my IP address. I was able to connect and everything.
Now, I tried to recreate that today, and was unable. It only lists the first two IP addresses when the server is up, and not the last one. I've also noticed that I think my IP may have changed overnight. Do I need a DNS in order to make this work, and how would I do this? I changed the serverlist.cs and put my IP in, and noticed something else also. The code line for the IP address is different then what it is in the guide. I changed this, but it still didn't work. Here's how it was after I changed it back: public static readonly string Address = "--IP--"; I am able to connect via my 192.168.1.100 IP, but is this accessable by the rest of the internet? One last thing, when I try to forward my ports in my Linksys, I put in the application name, to label them, then 2500 to 2600, then I click enable and save the settings, yet they are not on the list. This happened last night too, but it still worked for me when I had my server up. Any help is immensely appreciated. |

Just a quick reply about your IP Changing you can go and get a free DNS @ No-IP and then also download the program they have for free & it will automatically update your IP address if it changes.
As for your last question in your last post i don't mean to be rude but i dont really get it but here goes...No one can connect to your uo game without you having a server...Sorry if that isn't what you asked...

Congratulations first off all! It's always much more rewarding when you get something done without too much help, he? You can get a Serverlist.cs that is a somewhat more forgiving when you change IP numbers a lot at:
", " And you should get a dynamic DNS supplier: No-IP - Dynamic DNS, Static DNS for Your Dynamic IP It will allow you to map a DNS name to a often changing IP number. (Like Aryvex.gameserve.com == Your IP number) If you mean 'Your PC' as the single PC you use for general purpose AND hosting a RunUO server, don't expect it to accommodate a lot off players. Usually a dedicated machine is used for running a game server and it will be a high speed machine, lots of RAM, fast Disk, fast Ethernet and fast (and reliable) connection to the Internet. It will be stripped of all non essential services purely to accommodate the Client.exe. Nevertheless, if you simply wish to experiment a bit, and your PC is not an antique one. you probably can have 5 to 10 players online. (I did once). Do close all non essential background processes, services, scheduler etc. Good luck! |

Please excuse me, dear and honorable sir Flats: It’s because I’m such a slow typist that I had not noticed that you, in your infinite wisdom, had already decided to answer this question, resulting in this embarrassing double post. I only hope the Gods, and you, are willing to forgive me! But maybe, you should sacrifice some of that remarkable typing speed of yours to reading the post before you answer. And maybe you should take some time to read the posting times before you submit such childish remarks.

Actually, Melchior, you didn't, or at least not in the way that actually matters. Though I would hazard a guess and say your estimate will come close to reality for Aryvex.
Aryvex, the real bottleneck for player connections is neither your pc (as long as it is halfway decent, meaning a GB of RAM and a processor with 2GHz or more) nor your local WLAN speed. They are factors to be accounted for, yes, but they can be improved relatively easily. ("The only thing better than power is... more power.") Could also mention the OS, as WinXP has a smaller limit to TCP/IP connections than a W2k or W2k3 server; but that is only noticeable when a shard really becomes prominent. What is really important is the speed your WLAN connects to the internet with. From what I've learned over the years, it seems you can roughly assume that for every player you want to host, you should calculate about 20-30kB/s of upstream AND downstream speed - the lesser speed is usually the upstream, but both are needed really. Unfortunately, if you lack there, your only option is to upgrade your internet plan. |

I am just getting started with RunUO (haven't even been successful at getting my 127.0.0.1 client to log on to my server) and have much to learn. With the discussion of capacity limits based on line speed and OS though I saw an opportunity to verify my thinking on my connection.
I am running a full T-1 line and considering an upgrade to 3.0. With the T-1, I can expect a true average of between 1.2 to 1.3Mbs. Based upon Setharnas' experience where the post notes that 20/30Kbs per signon should be planned, then I should have no line bottlenecks with 25 to 30 players. Do others' experience agree with my interpretation here? Thanks! |
