Default Hello All

Hi.
I'm new here, obviously.

This software is really awesome.
I played on a Private UO Server, I refuse to name drop, and got banned.
The ban was stupid, I was showing my best friend how to play using his account and then I logged into mine.
So, the shard owner thought multiple free accounts.
And ding, ban.
Which, I feel, wasn't very nice.
But oh well.
Now I can run my own.

So far I have a few questions, and if anyone could answer them it would be much appreciated.

1) Where is the proper forum to place questions?

2) How difficult is it to implement a custom map?
(Original Question: Can I implement a custom map? Answer: Found searching forums)

3) (Only if yes to 2)
In that map, can I disable player-built houses and have houses in towns? Have the houses in town purchasable?

Thanks for the answers in advance.
Good luck to all.
And thanks for such a great place.

-Richard

1. It depends on what kind of question you have; if it's a question on how to create/debug a script, you'll post it in the Script Support board. If it's a question on how the server operates, connection issues, etc, you'll post it in the Server Support board. If it's something else kinda unrelated, you'll post it either here or in the General Discussion board.
Note: never post script *requests*. That's against the rules and it'll get you either warned or banned

2. You can! You can go to OrBSydia DevNet and get UOLandscaper (there are other tools to do this, but this is my personal preference). It's a bit difficult to get used to; I suggest that you use it to make a practice map (not one that you actually plan on keeping/using) but just one to see how different tiles, elevation, etc works.
Note: if you want to use a custom map, you'll have to patch it to your players when they connect. To do this, you'll need a host with webspace. There are a number of free hosts available for this (I don't know any off of the top of my head, unfortunately...)

3. You absolutely can! It's not even very hard either There's a script called Knives' Townhouses that'll let you sell houses in-town, and it'll take only a small script modification to disable the sale of house placement tools/deeds.

Welcome to RunUO! Hope you have a blast... I know I have.

P.S. if someone doesn't reply to a question, don't be discouraged. Wait about a week before bumping the thread... and only do so if you have more information or can somehow better rephrase/explain your question. Posting "come on people HELP me already!" will just get other people annoyed with you and you'll likely not receive ANY help.

Thanks a bunch.

Erm.
Yeah.
I know when asking for help, the best thing to do is be as nice and cheery as possible.
Saying "Oh my god! You guys need to freaking help me!" doesn't seem to work so well.
Its best to say please, thanks, and all that stuff.
And of course, patience is a virtue.

I plan on searching through the forums and such and looking around.
Messing with that custom map thing.

I plan on making a private UO server for me and my best friend to play and mess around on.
Once I get it the way I want, or something like that, I will let other people play.
I don't think I'm gonna try to get too big though.
But ya never know.

Thanks again.

New question:

I'm trying to make my server so that I can get my friend to connect to it.
I found my public ip.
And I have it written down.

In my serverlist file...
What do I put?

Also.
I have a wireless 2wire router.
So do I have to put in the 12.34.56.78?

Every time I use Razor using my public ip, my Client crashes.
Am I not supposed to use my public ip and should I just put the 1.1.1.1 or the 127.0.0.1

I'm also behind a firewall.
Would that doing anything to prevent him to connect?
Using "Comodo Firewall Pro"

Ok...
The question above, I answered for myself.
Me and my friend just went ahead with it...
BUT...

Is there anyway I can not have to turn off my firewall to let him in?

Probably, yes.

If you can use the advanced features of your Firewall, you should be able to "punch holes" in it, allowing approved traffic to flow through, like RunUO.

Ok...
I allowed all access in and out for RunUo...
That is under "Application Manager" I believe.
Should there be elsewhere I would have to "punch holes"?
