Hello there everyone, I’m new here and yet again I’m not. I created this account a bit ago just to look at some of the scripts others were making and to figure out how the whole thing works (UO/RUO in general). It has come to my attention that I really don’t know too much about scripting or basic commands. Sadly when I do searches on certain topics or key words I never find what it is I’m truly looking for. So I’m off to find my own answers here. I’m not asking for help or handouts; because after reading what others get in return wiliest doing so is shocking. So here’s my post, I believe its my first one to be exact, I hope it turns out well being on here.

Welcome Aboard!
I find it much easier when I search for a particular error that I might be having than just key words. Or if I search for the command line etc. Narrowing down the search that way seems to really improve it.

I find most of the issues I come across as a shard owner have already been addressed on the forum and searching really does help, but you have to be able to know what you are looking for. There are a lot of bad help requests and bad replies out there. It would be great if one of the mods had the time to weed through a few, but I know they are all busy people.
Blind searches often turn up others who post because they didn't find it either, some times the replies to those posts, help sometimes they don't. Proper spelling can help, narrowing down what it is you are looking for can help, narrowing down your search to specific user or forum can help. It also would help if people would use better titles in their posts and if those replying would try to help, or at least try to point the person in the right direction. When seeking help try being as detailed about your problem or wish as possible. Realize that people may not be willing to do the work for you, but many are willing to help teach you how to do it or show you related examples. Trial and error is one of the better ways for a non coder to do things with RunUO . Many errors and many types of errors have been covered here on the forums. As Rosetta said searching for errors can help you out as well. I have been here nearly every day since November 2003. Topics started by me seeking help ~3 Posts which I made in reply try to help & inform others: ~3,330 & Growing. You can also use Google adding site:runuo.com at the end of your query.
e.g. sextant site:runuo.com

I find the site search on run:uo is a little too inclusive, and I usually do a google seach and end up back at RunUO. This tip will certainly help cut down on the google results; Thanks. |
