Hello, Ive been away for a long time, but I have found time again to get back into the scene.

I know very little C#/C++, and I am looking for a few people that use AIM or are willing to sign up on AIM and help me out with my shard. I will offer positions on the shard when we go live.

I also am in search for decorators and preferable someone who has the knowledge to compile a new map and import new graphics into the client.

Id like to add anyone contacts me must act professional. I do not care if you are 12 or 200, if you are annoying, immature, or plan to talk "lik der is no rools", dont talk to me at all.

That said, I've begun to wonder lately whether or not that prohibition has past its time. The community has been chilling out lately.

Where can I find people to staff my shard? Or where can I post about it?

a few years ago i was looking for shards to script for, but none of the larger shards were recruiting scripters. i got very tired very quickly of scripting for shards that had like 10 or less people, and it seemed all the larger shards were scripted by 1-2 people and didnt want new scripters.

i dont know if this has changed lately but i may look into this.

I've been approached a half dozen times or so by the various large shards. The trick is to script FIRST. Start writing some things that are very useful. You'll get inquiries.

This confuses me slightly. Basically you want someone to do custom graphics, custom maps, landscape decorating and custom scripts for you... You know that is pretty much everything there is to do for a server. If a person is able to do all of this themselves why would they just produce their own.

I think it would be wise for you to atleast start learning one of the trades you've listed above so you can somewhat contribute to the work being performed on your server. I know I personally work harder for someone who leads by example. Because I wouldn't put that much time and effort into a server just to be offered a position. If you are putting that much time and effort into a project you wouldn't want the possibility of it being taken away. The only way most experienced server developers would place that much effort into a server they didn't personally host would be if they knew the server administrator personally and could put faith in them ( or atleast thats how I feel ).

As far as where you can advertise for server staff. Last I knew UOGateway.com has an entire section in their message boards for staff advertising, you should comb through there. Good luck with your search for staff, I wish you all the best.

Im not expecting someone to do everything for me. If I was I would pay someone. I have a lot of stuff done already, but its always better to have another set of eyes go over things. You make it sound as if I just put a server up and Im looking for people to run it for me. Thats not the case.

I dont know what happened to people on this forum. Used to be friendly and helpful and all Ive gotten so far was criticism and flaming.

I think the proper forum would be located here:

There's an employment board there where you can advertise your shard, and find the employee's you need to make your shard work.

Make sure you are advertising for staff though. Like say if you post looking for staff, your allowed to advertise what your shard is about.

Yes RunUO and ConnectUO are linked, but there are no boards supporting ConnectUO here.

Anyway, there's a lot a good shard administrator can offer, including the physical server itself, and its administration. If that's to include the bulletin board and other framework, that's the admin's contribution right there.

I am using windows vista and trying to connect with my laptop to my shard on a seperate machine on a local network. The other comp is a desktop with windows xp. I am using it as my server (2gb ram, 2.8 ghz p4). I can connect and play with the server computer, but I can not with the vista laptop.

When i open uogateway, it says it can not find fonts.mul....

Try ConnectUO; I use ConnectUO and UO Client together on Vista, they work just fine.
