Help for the Town Crier

I know I am a dummy at times but for some reason i cannot get my town criers to announce his/her messages for very long. I even have trouble setting it up for short periods of time. I never can get the time format typed in right. Could some one help me with this? Is there a limitation as to the amount of time a crier can deliver the message?

Here is a way to make it so it will last a long time or a short time.


do the [towncriers command then it will ask you to specify.

The duration.

For Long Period:

19:50:00 (Hours:Minutes:Seconds) (Can be anything, i am just using examples) This one is for 19 hours and 50 minutes

For Short Period

01:00:00 (HRS:MINS:SECONDS) This one is jsut for 1 hour.

Then he will need the message.

Just type in what you want

Example:

Hello, And welcome to the Shard, Today we have....

btw if ur msg is to long just press enter u can keep goin on msg and when ur msg is all typed and u pressed enter ... hit esc to close it and u towncrier should stay saying the msg in 10-30sec

For my shard, i set duration of one year in this way:

Found original line (the first half is the same) and subst whith this

m_ExpireTime = DateTime.Now + TimeSpan.FromDays( 365.0 );

I have an issue that after the server saves and restarts the town criers messages are all wiped. So when I want to run them for a week or two it doesn't seem to want to cooperate.

If anyone has an idea let me know. Thanks.

Type your messages into a Notepad (or other text editor of choice) text file and copy/paste after each restart.

Yeah I was trying to prevent that, like if I take off for a few days then the information wouldn't be saved.

You could just expand the town crier script so it saves the messages and only allows them to expire when the time is up.

Best thing to do is search the archives for a shard greeter. Open up the script its self and edit the lines were it has "this is a stupid message please edit me" blah blah blah. you can use that code for later on making other stuff. O use it as a resource for furture projects. Sometimes having a good script for a resource comes in handy later on down the road.
