Default Haven't been here in ages.

Now I'm back, no one remembers me, I'm sure, I wasn't important, haha. I've got RunUO 2 RC2 and the UO client downloaded and patched up to 6.0.6.2 (I stopped it before 6.0.7.0 because I read something or other?)

Anyway, I can't remember how to do much of this or find the info I need. What I really just want to know is this:

What do I need to do to get a shard running with quests, monsters, npcs, etc.? If anyone can direct me to the information to get one going, that's great too. I just don't really remember what I'm doing here anymore. I used to have a shard years and years ago. I just want to get a typical shard up with all the stuff it should have so I can play with a few folks I know. So I need to know:

What version of the UO client should I be updated to?
What client program should I use for myself and others to join the shard?
Do I need scripts or other files to get it set with actual stuff?

I'm not looking to do ANY customization just yet, I just want a standard server with the stuff it should have, if that makes sense. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks a lot!

I read something about 6.0.6.2 having some defects, but not sure about 6.0.7.0. I stopped at 6.0.5.0 because RC2 officially supported it.

Depends on what you like...not trying to be evasive here, but...try the Sticky thread on the Script Downloads section. It is a compendium of (most) all of the scripts written by users here. If you are looking for something in particular, it's probably there, and I think the links still work.

When you say typical, do you mean "like OSI"? or do you mean just the latest and greatest? I would say the 'typical' shard around here is basically an OSI-clone - but with a few differences. Most have higher skill and stat caps than OSI, and most have much smaller player-base. Beyond that, there are still many that intend to set themselves apart, and with the thousands of custom scripts that people here have written, it is easy to do that.

Hmmm...a tough question. I think it breaks down like this: depending on what scripts you want to add to your server, choose your version of RunUO first, then decide which UO version fits.

RunUO 1.0 - UO should be no higher than 5.0.8.1 - most use between 4.0 and 5.0.5.
RunUO 2.0 RC1 - UO should be no higher than 5.0.9.x - most use 5.0.8.1~ish.
RunUO 2.0 RC2 - UO can be above 6.0.x - I think 6.0.5.0 might work the best for full map support.

Razor. If you need to patch any files to the players, you will need to wait until ConnectUO is working, or distribute your own archive, but if you distribute your own files, and your users patch manually, they will not be able to do OSI patching again unless they re-install it.

Yes. Without any custom scripts, you will have a very basic shard, and unless you are VERY good at landscaping/decorating/spawning by hand - you will have bored players.

OK. The Server will work "out of the box" so to speak, but again, it is hard to get it up and running without a few custom touches. I recommend if you are new to setting up a shard, you start with the following:
  • UO Patched to 5.0.9.1
  • RunUO 2.0 RC1
  • Nerun's RC1 Distro (you may have to search for this.)
  • Search the forums for scripts written for RC1. They are quite numerous.
  • Try to NOT get many scripts that modify RunUO core files, like BaseCreature.cs, as you will get headaches trying to merge them with your files.
If you are a bit adventurous, and you don't mind some growing pains, but you want the 'latest and greatest' then get:
  • UO Patched to 6.0.5.0
  • RunUO 2.0 RC2
  • Nerun's Distro (for RC2/SVN)
