Default >18 tile update range in "To-do list"

Quote:
-Attempt to hack >18 tile update range
From the "To-Do list thread

Can you explain to me what this means? If it means what I think it does, it can't possibly be a good thing.

The client only shows people and other objects from 18 tiles away. You can use razor to turn the resolution up really high, you might be able see statics from 50 or however many tiles away, but you still only see people and other objects within that 18 tile range. Correct?

It seems you want to bypass this, allowing someone in high resolution to see everyone in the city of Britain for example, or scope out an entire dungeon just from the entrance.

Am I misinterpreting something?

I think it's a great idea.

It may have some innocent uses, IE overseeing a large event.
But if it does what I think it does it would have MANY exploitive uses there is no denying that, like I mentioned scoping out a dungeon from the entrance.
A Pk wouldn't even have to wander through to look for victims just a quick in and out.

That could also work in reverse and IS how I'd use it... so I could get away from a PK.

^^
That is true, and also something I would consider exploitive.

heh, since I hate PK enough to want any way to escape it may be an exploit but its one I can tollerate, but since it can be used both ways its only not an advantage is someone is not using the program.

No, the range in which you see people is controlled by the server so without server support for >18 tile range, you would still only see people within 18 tiles.

The ToDo list is referencing a problem with increasing the game window size which shows that UO doesn't cache map/statics much father out than 18 tiles.

My hope would be to hax this in order to get UO to draw a window properly all the way up to like 1600x1200

Unfortunently, its unlikely I'll be able to accomplish it at all.

Thank you for the response, I am glad it wasn't what I thought it was.
