Default Slight problem with Razor, Unhandled exception with overflowing the char buffer.

Unhandled exception:

System.ArgumentException: The output char buffer is too small to contain the decoded characters, encoding 'Unicode (UTF-8)' fallback 'System.Text.DecoderReplacementFallback'.
Parameter name: chars
at System.Text.Encoding.ThrowCharsOverflow()
at System.Text.Encoding.ThrowCharsOverflow(DecoderNLS decoder, Boolean nothingDecoded)
at System.Text.UTF8Encoding.GetChars(Byte* bytes, Int32 byteCount, Char* chars, Int32 charCount, DecoderNLS baseDecoder)
at System.Text.DecoderNLS.GetChars(Byte* bytes, Int32 byteCount, Char* chars, Int32 charCount, Boolean flush)
at System.Text.DecoderNLS.GetChars(Byte[] bytes, Int32 byteIndex, Int32 byteCount, Char[] chars, Int32 charIndex, Boolean flush)
at System.Text.DecoderNLS.GetChars(Byte[] bytes, Int32 byteIndex, Int32 byteCount, Char[] chars, Int32 charIndex)
at System.IO.BinaryReader.InternalReadOneChar()
at System.IO.BinaryReader.Read()
at System.IO.BinaryReader.PeekChar()
at Ultima.StringList..ctor(String language)
at Assistant.Language.Load(String lang)
at Assistant.Engine.Main(String[] Args)

This happens on the "old" release of Razor, for shards that don't support the newer clients or newer encryption methods.

I would assume thats why you need to get the "new" release of razor?

The newer version crashes the client when trying to login. The client is too old for the methods razor seems to be using or something.

Looks like you will need an alternative then, I doubt zippy will change the new one to work with the old client, since it supports the new client...

Yeah, if you are having problems with the old version of Razor you are out of luck.

if you want to start a new thread about the problem you're having with the new version, I might be able to help you. But I will not provide support for old versions of Razor. I have already supported those, and thats why we have new versions of Razor.

Hi Zippy,

I do know the nightmares of supporting older clients, but some long-standing shards can't easily move away from UOGateway to ConnectUO. Those who still use gateway have to use the older Razor (as far as I'm aware). The problem that has been reported seems to have been caused by a Windows Update as some of my players have reported a rollback (system restore) cures it.

I know several of my players would really appreciate you taking a look to see if you can backport a fix to the older version, and I in turn would be grateful for the lack of them moaning about it on my forums :-)

Obviously, I respect that it's your product and your choice, I just thought I'd echo my players plea for some kind of fix if you do get the chance.

Backporting is not possible. If you refuse to move away from ConnectUO, then you will have to deal with an old, supported Razor version.

Or, find Mr. Fixit and get him to update UOGateway.
