Exclamation Should Request Forums be Free for All members?

What do you think people?
Lately, many people have been posting on script submission forum asking and requisting scripts, what should be done at Script Request area, restricted to subscribers.
I suggest that script request should be a free area for all members, or make a restriction like, free after one script submission or 200 posts, something like that.
And for subscribers i woulb suggest other and better benefits, some I think that have been already implemented:
  • Priority on Support and with exclusive support area
  • Access to RunUO versions before public release
  • Access to RunUO scripts, projects, etc new versions before public release
  • Subscribers could submit a banner of his shard and ppl could see the shard banner with a link on a banner rotating system, that would show these shard ads and other RunUO stuff, like Razor, Krrios, etc
  • Etc Etc Etc

One request every 10,000 posts. Sounds good to me.

How about we don't pay the damn $3 and post your gay requests 99% of the requests don't even get filled, and nobody but subscribers would fill them anyhow.

I know from experience Ryan isn't going to get rid any of the subscriber benefits, and I will report ALL ILLEGAL REQUESTS within hours of people posting.

So DO NOT POST REQUESTS IF YOUR NOT A SUBSCRIBER kthnx

Then post them in the normal script submissiom or become a subscriber.

There is no excuse in not giving back to this community.

I'm not a subscriber and prolly won't be anytime soon since I lack a credit card and therefore don't have paypal. I try to donate in my own way by releasing scripts on the submission forum that are in line with the OSI clone goal of RunUO.

Anyway, I don't really understand why the request part is for subscribers only, as this 'gap' could be filled in by anyone willing enough to set up a webby for this. People that respond to custom script requests, I assume, are willing to script anyway; so if the requester donated to RunUO or not, is independent on whether someone want to script it.

But ofcourse, this is totally up to the creators of RunUO and its their good right to do as they please with their emulator, forum, and related activities. The current other features of being a subscriber sound perfectly normal for what one would get in return for a donation.

The only section that I think should be open, is the (official) bug-report/view section, if it works that is. I only read that it wasn't accessible anyway, but I can't check if it is working for subscribers. Perhaps submit and download/request rights for scripts could be linked, so only contributers (in script form, or payment) could benefit. This would require ofcourse moderation to rate/allow a script to be submitted which takes time, etc, etc. Oops, I'm wondering off again...

Oh well, just my thoughts

1. Post what? I think you are missing my point. If in the subscribers section they ask for a script that no subscribers want to write and perchance I would. would that be a waiste for them to post a request there?

2. sorry Phantom I have other things to do. I cant seem to set at the computer all day like you ( have a life. kids, wife, etc. etc.)

The reason Ryan did not want script requests to begin with is he did not want these boards to be filled with people requesting leet weapons and armor. Apparently that is a problem on some other emulator's forums. Everyone here knows that if script requests were allowed, they would not stay politely in one forum, they would be everywhere.

The script request area for subscribers was granted as a concession and a thank you for the subscribers. Honestly I think Ryan had mixed feelings even over it. I really doubt a general request forum will ever happen here.

To be honest most requests go unfilled in the subscribers section anyway. It's not the Dev's providing scripts or support, it's the users. I have filled a couple of requests that struck my fancy, and there are a couple more I will do when I get time. But I think even the few I've done is unusual.
