Non-Subscriber Script Request Section

Hi Everyone!

I think a Non-Subscriber Script Request Section should be created.

Why? Because I think this would help many people. There is actually many scripts that might not be posted on this forums, but exsist. people who has them in their computers, knows sites where they can be found...

I know there is already a subscriber section, but me and many people are not subscribers. the subscriber section can co-exist, and mods and other people can ONLY help people in that section if they want, making scripts for them, its ok.

But it would be good for the non-subscribers to have a section where we can help each other, because there is many people that might have scripts that dont want to post because they are not good or they are not theirs and dont want to get flammed and stuff. But maybe someone looking for it would like to use it.

What would be the point of have a subscriber script forum then?
It is not hard to donate $3 to runuo, I highly doubt Ryan will do this because this would take away donations for runuo.
If people need help with a script, there is a forum called script support, where people can go for help.

Although I do not entirely agree with my fellow forum member I agree on the point that an additional script request forum for 'non-subscribers' will not be a beneficial addition to the forums.

The main problem would lie in the fact that basically anyone who just downloaded a runuo distribution would get the grand idea to fill up this request forum with a few posts.

Not only will this cause a lot of clutter but most of the script requests will already have been created (there's a lot of people that do not search first), a lot of nonsensical requests will appear (like a football helmet filled with cheese [that one actually exists :]) and people will undoubtedly request things that will be considerably more work than others are willing to invest.

From personal experience in the subscribers script requests: Only very few ideas actually get scripted by 'external' scripters. Complex ideas generally get ignored or put on position 3422247 on someone's to-do list and too simple requests generally get ignored because they're too simple.

Finally there is the concern that someone will actually script your great and wonderful idea and then not give it to you when it's done.

The only benefit I could see in such a request forum would be that it'll make a good place for some people to pick up a new idea or two.

Even then I would predict that only one out of every 20 script requests will ever be answered and there's a decent chance that some people who are at least 'trying' to script will simply just reduce themselves to requesting.

A nightmare from a forum mod's point of perspective (unless it is unmodded) but a considerably simple addition.


All in all I would say it's worth a try to create a non-subscriber script request forum but I seriously doubt it's viability.

you may need help with a script, thats fine. go to the script support forum

but ppl shouldn't request a script, since we're not doing anyones stuff here. anyone should do his own work.

The Subscriber Request forum was only put in as a Thank You to subscribers. Otherwise, there'd still be no Request forum (Same with Classifides).


There will be no Non-Subscriber Request forum. The subscribers DESERVE special forums for helping keep RunUO.com running.
